Just back home from what without doubt has been the finest day of my golfing life.
First of all, a huge thanks to GM for the day and also to Princes for their incredible welcome, gifts and hospitality and their supreme links course.
The day started with a full english breakfast then onto the driving range. There were clearly some fine golfers there looking at the shots on display, luckily for me I was bombing it also so didnt feel out of place. Zane then joined us to demo a few shots and take questions, to see a guy of his calibre hitting balls was amazing and he took lots of time giving answers to various q's.
We then went onto the chipping and putting area where we were given some individual and in-depth coaching from zane.
Lunch followed and then it was onto the course on which a stableford competition was to be played.
I was very nervous as this was my first time on a links course and this was a very penal one to say the least. There was also wind to contend with which didnt aid my nerves.
Anyway, after a decent first 2 holes (6pts) I lost my way somewhat, I think the rainstorm didnt help but I ended up making 4 blobs on the remaining 7 holes to go out with 13pts, saved by a jammy 4-point hole.
After the turn however things took a change, I ditched the driver in favour of accuracy and ended up playing out of my skin for 21pts which I was delighted with. I couldnt go wrong on and around the greens, the legacy no doubt of the time spent earlier with Zane.
To finish with 34pts was fantastic even more so when I learned that I was the overall winner of the stableford and recieved a wonderful prize...... A 1 Year Associate membership to Princes GC!!!
I was genuinely stunned, let alone to win but to recieve such a great prize. I hurt from all the grinning.
It was a truly fantastic day and a real pleasure to meet Jezza and Luke from the Magazine, in which there will be an offical article on the day I am told.
Here is a picture of me with Zane who all I can say was great company, a charming man to be honest with all the time in the world for questions, to give tips and advice and just a really nice, friendly guy. He even poured my tea for me!
Thanks again to GM and Princes, I cant wait to start playing there already, and a special thanks and Good Luck for your golfing career to Zane Scotland.
