Why?

He is hardly one for the future, aged 30, and plays for fulham (no disrespect, but they are a mid table prem team at best). what is capello going to learn from this? Will he take him to the euros? Probably not. First cap, aged 30. Can't see the point. If he was any good, he would have been picked at a younger age.

Better to blood some one younger, in my view.

He is probably a nice guy, and it is nice he gets a cap, but I don't get it.

I agree. I wouldn't normally bother with a midweek friendly but I mostly like the young, hungry team selection. But the Zamora pick baffles. Wellbeck? The other dude that plays at Chelski who's name escapes me?

2nd cap actually. I thought he did ok and was better at holding the ball up and bringing others into play that Bent was. That is what his game is about and what Capello was looking at. He could be idea as a target man (think Heskey with more ability) should the need arise to go a bit more direct and give Rooney and others something to feed of. I don't actually think there are many of his ilk around in the premier league these days which is why he's caught Capello's eye and he does wade in with a few goals. He's not one for the future but could possibly do a job if needed

I thought Zamora was brilliant, ran his heart out. When Sturridge came on he hardly touched the ball. While Zamora was putting himself about all over the place.
I don't think Sturridge did himself any favours at all, and I know it's hard to get in the game when coming on as a sub, but he didn't seem to want the ball.

Fine, nothing against the guy, but can't see why? Ok for a few games, but surely there is someone out there with an eye to the next generation without picking some one with such a limited future.

Yeah, I agree with you Chris, but isn't it worrying when we're struggling to think of someone similar to play that role? Bring back one of my favourites Teddy Sheringham!

Capello's preferred target man is Andy Carroll. He has lost faith in Peter Crouch and so he is looking at Zamora as another option for the target man. He will no doubt select four strikers for the Euros and I see it as choices between Zamora/Carroll and Welbeck/Sturridge/Agbonlahor. Bent and Rooney are on the plane if they stay fit. You need a blend of youthful exuberance and experience. And while Zamora's been injured of late two years ago he was the form Premiership striker. If he plays like he did under 'Woy' I'd take him.

I thought he did well and should be in the Euros squad.

Why? The paucity of other options. Simple as that. Just because he is 30 doesn't mean someone younger is necessarily a better option. I don't agree with getting ready for a tournament at some point in the future by blooding youth now.

Rather, I agree with Graham Hanry who said all the future planning was a waste of time as you need the best players in the side who have performed to the highest standard over the previous six months irrespective of their age or seniority in the squad. Pick on form. Seems simple to me.

Graham Henry for England!

I was at wembley last night and from what I could see it looked like Zamora didnt have a good game. Obviously on tv you see more angles and I am yet to view that. He seemed to give the ball away a lot and what chances England carved out came through the wings. The jones chance im sure the defender gets the ball away from Zamora then Jones picks it up from that. To me Zamora isnt the way to go if we play 1 up front, if we play 2 then I can see him fitting that role but he isnt quick enough to show a threat in behind so the defence could manage him well.

Sturridge looked like he was trying too hard to impress and playing him on the wing I dont think suited him too well as he is better on the last man. Was disappointing that Johnson didnt get a game as he looks a real prospect. Walcott I thought was superb and when he went off it seemed our attacking threat had gone. Kyle Walker seemed to work well with him as well as they are both lightning quick.

Personally I think he will take Rooney, Bent, Wellbeck, Carroll and Agbonlahor. With the fact the Agbonlahor can also play on the wing.

My squad at the moment would be
Keepers - Hart, Foster, Carson
Defenders - Cole, Baines, Terry, Cahill, Jagielka, Lescott, Smalling, Walker
Midfielders - Parker, Jones, Lampard, Gerrard, Walcott, Johnson, Downing
Forwards - Rooney, Bent, Carroll, Wellbeck, Agbonlahor

I may have missed someone out but that squad I think would be able to cope with some injuries, Ferdinand I feel will be the big name to miss out.
