All,

Hit the range yesterday afternoon to work on the driver swing which went well. We have Nike range balls which are new and seemed to launch higher and distance wise longer than our older ones.

Anyway, a Srixon Z Star was also in my basket so gave it a go. What a beautiful sound it made to go with a respectable flight and distance. The feel felt soft and magnificent.

What are these Z Stars like? What do they compare to? I normally use a Titelist NXT

Your comments and guidance are much appreciated.

Hope it was a grubby Z star, coz it is too nice a ball to be bladdering down a range. If it is a nice condition ball, the next person that finds it will drop it in there bag 😜

That aside the ball is a bit to good/ spinny for me. Much prefer the Srixon ad333 tour. Play with the ad 333 as they are cheaper and kinda suit my game.

Z-Star is my ball of choice, not that I've tested extensively. I just like them and I've used them so much that I know how they sound and how they react.

I think they spin more than an NXT but no idea how it compares distance wise.

Similar to the nxt tour s nice ball
Does everything well.

I have just spent the last couple of days reading a lot about different brands as I've used the AD333 a lot over winter and ad333 tour last summer. I have used NXT tour S if I could afford them at various times.
Been trying to find what is hopefully the best ball for me and was surprised to read the Z-Star is a lower compression ball compared to other premium balls (proV). This might be what I'm after as I'm a moderate speed swinger and want a soft feel to putt and chip.

I'm the same pal! Just been reading about the chrome sorts as well. Think I might have to gives the Z star, AD333 Tour and Chrome softs ago. Thanks all for the replies.

I like the Z star and generally a few quid per box cheaper than Pro V's. Have to be honest had I found one in the range bucket and it was half decent I'd have had that (yest I know technically its theft but who wouldn't?)

When I signed up to the golf monthly mag a couple of months ago you got a dozen Z stars chucked in. Seemed rude not to.

Quality ball and the Pro V competitor from Srixon, it used to be the case that they were way way more durable than the Pro Vs (3 or 4 years ago) but Titleist caught up in that department.

For me I rate the Srixon balls over the Titleist, just my preference. I've played the Z-Star and like them but my ball of choice is the AD333 Tour, it's soft but not like putty and hard but not like brick, guess you could say just right, well just right for me.

Is it....... really?

Our range runs parallel to our 4th which is only separated by around 10yds of rough and a bank around 30ft high. Lots of great balls end up on our range therefore in a range bucket, and with most hit from the 4th tee, being so fresh into the round are like brand new. I'd have no qualms taking a mint high end ball out, especially with what range balls cost per bucket.

To clarify, I'm also the kinda guy that's builds up an old bucket and takes the to club range and donates them foc. This can often be made up of high end balls that are still no doubt gameable in a lot of people's eyes

Almost anything goes further and feels nicer to hit than a range ball! 😀

I haven't tried the new Z-Star, although I got a free box of 2015 Z-Star's when I subscribed to Golf Monthly and these were great, sadly lost them all now but now that I'm not loosing 3 or 4 balls per round I might look to buy a box, especially with £1.50 going to Prostate Cancer.
