I very often slice my driver right. I've tried a few different things to resolve it but nothing successful consistently until tonight.

I saw a video on YouTube explaining to take your normal set up but just focus and aim a few inches before the ball. I tried this tonight and went from around 8/10 drives being sliced to around 2\10.

I'm planning to get a lesson booked on my driving in the near future but I was wondering if anyone else uses this technique regularly and has success with it on the course? I've only tried it on the driving range so far but if it provides the same results on the course I'll be over the moon!

It makes sense to do that, I guess, since you want your club to bottom out there. I used to set up my driver and hover it in place in the middle of my stance (so as you say, about 4 inches beofre the ball). I changed that again, because it did not give me a lot of confidence, I prefer to see the clubhead directly behind the ball in setup, but I allow my hands to be in a more closed position at setup now with the feeling as if I already hit the ball (because I need to bottom out my swing before that point to get my hands back to there, I guess. It also helps me to close the club face on impact and getting a straighter ballflight or even a slight draw.)

There are no quick fixes that will improve your game in the long run. if you are slicing it, its your swing i would get that looked at.

I set up with the driver head about 4 inches behind the ball which I guess has the same effect. The ball is still in front of my left foot. I think it was Mo Norman who I first saw do it and I just feel it helps me align my shoulders better to my target.

I do this too when I can remember, do it with the irons too.. I find it helps me get a bit steeper which I need.

Yeah, i set up similarly to what you describe.
I think if you line the ball up to left heel with the club directly behind the ball it makes your shoulders point left and can encourage a slice or pull type swing.

The other thing that will help negate slice is to bow your left wrist on backswing - this tends to put you into a position where it's difficult to slice as the clubface wont be open(see Dustin Johnson/GMac at top of backswing) - post above talks about same type of thing but on downswing......you could try both and see if they help
