Continuing on from similar threads what are your favourite closing stretches.

Mine would be :

RCP

Littlestone

Addington.

Over to you

Seriously??

RCP is generally recognised as having a poor opening hole and a poor finishing hole then 16 great ones in between.

Best 3 in a row I can think of is St Enodoc. Great par 5 along the beach, 200 yard uphill par 3 then a beast of a par 4 through the dunes to a upturned saucer green.

Carnoustie is also a great finishing stretch.

Yes, I enjoyed it as a final 3, which is what matters to me.

Your love for St Enodoc is similar to mine for Saunton East :)

My top 3 would be -

1) Saunton East - Very tough finish, 16 is a tough right to left dog leg with a slightly blind second shot. 17 is a brute of a par 3, and 18 rivals any finishing hole in the world.

2) St Enodoc (as Gordon said). Great par 5, tough par 3, tough par 4 18th.
3)Notts - two good birdie opportunities and then a very tough par 4 to finish

I have to say, Addington as a finish is slightly marred by that horrendous par 5 16th. one of the worst golf holes i've played. (should add i played it off the yellows, and i hate par 5's that force you to hit an iron off the tee)

Not really, I love lots of courses not just Saunton East, Notts and Alwoodly :ears:

HAHAHA.

I prefer Woodhall and Ganton to Alwoodley, but neither have the greatest finishes. 17 at Ganton is pretty bad, and i dont like the 18th a woodhall!

Alwoodleys 17th isnt great either!

Saunton is better than St Enodoc though ;) Its the 11th and 12th on St Enodoc that cause that.

Royal County Down - There are no bad holes !!
St Andrews - 16 & 17 great holes, 18th what a view even tho' the holes not too much.
Brocket Hall Melbourne - purely because I like the ferry ride to the 18th green.

Well as always, it all comes down to personal preference. I prefer playing St Enodoc to Saunton East. In fact, I prefer playing Saunton West to the East course. Not saying it's a better course (it isn't) but I find it more enjoyable as the East can be a slog at times.

Nothing wrong with 11/12th at St Enodoc. 11th is as good a par 3 as any and the 12th has a fantastic green complex with loads of run off areas all around it.

11 just felt like it had been 'fit' in to me. I'd happily play the course every day for rest of my life though.

As a finishing stretch I'd go for:

1. Hillside, great final stretch and a par 3, 5 then 4 to finish so a full array of shots can be used.
2. Gullane #1, love this place.
3. Silloth, like Hillside, it's a 3, 5, 4 finish. Lovely course.

I love RCD, but don't think the last three holes are quite up there. St Andrews is stunning with the view towards the town, and two iconic holes in 17 and 18. Best played wind behind mind you.

Agree with comments on St Enodoc. the par 3 11th is probably the poorest hole on the course. Not bad, just does not fit so well in my opinion with all the other holes. 12 and 13 are very similar in style. Great course though. My favourite finishing holes are the last 3 on the Majlis in Dubai, Ladybank in Fife and the National in Abu Dhabi.

The final three at Carnoustie are hard to beat

For me, best is enjoyable. I find these holes too difficult to be enjoyable.

Old course has an outstanding finishing stretch. I love a closing hole with a reasonable chance of a birdie but still with enough character to make it tricky. A poor second shot makes a par difficult.

16 is a good hole.
17 is a silly hole which has become iconic, it wouldn't be built or designed like that today.

18 is piss poor.
