The Situation...

A guy a your club started the year off 26 nd is now down to 18. Everyone in your club knows he's improving rapidly and despite playing in every available qualifier is still regularly scoring 39+ pts. Following a competition in which he scores 39 pts he realises he's forgotten to sign in on the PSI system. He explains the situation to the pro, telling him that he doesn't want the money if he wins any, all he's interested in is the cut.

The Question...

Agree with Twire.....he should be DQ'd for not following the correct procedures which would preclude him from winning any prizes, but as with any DQ, the card still counts for H/C purposes.

Fair play on the guy for recognising the situation and wanting his handicap to come down.

Mike

If you're referring to Sundance, he got the cut anyway

Hi homer, yeah I am and I'm aware of his general play cut. I'm just a bit surprised that people complained and wondered what the general consensus on here was. As far as I can see, it's not in anyone's interest for him not to be cut (excpet of course his pairs partner)

Disqualifying him and cutting him is surely the only option in this instance. I'm sure it's not the first time someone hasn't signed in but that is surely no different to not signing your card?

If he doesn't get cut I presume people will moan that he avoided a cut is a bandido?
Therefore a DQ and cut would be the fairest outcome.

It wouldn't bother me him not signing in as he still thinks the card is for a qualifier. Not signing his card at the end is different though

I would think the not signing in on the computer is pretty common , see some guys at our club do it when they come in , sign in then enter the score , never considered it a big problem to be honest , we check in in the shop & pay & get our cards etc , the computer is down the hall .. does anybody actualy check the sigh in time ?? who would have known if he had signed in & then entered card ?? if he had another competitor marking & signing his card .. realy what diff does it make ??? am i been nieve ?? agree with Chris if it was not signing the card at the end well tough your DQ ,

I have been browsing this forum for a little while now but haven't bothered signing up until today so I think its about time I raised my head.

The outcome of the situation was that I was disqualified from the competition but my card was not included for handicap purposes either. There was a committee meeting later in the week and it was decided that it was about time I received a general play cut of 1.5 to take me to 16.3. I would have preferred both but one cut is better than none in my situation. One thing is for sure though, I wont forget to sign in again.

Welcome on board Sundance fair play to you & your wanting to be cut , nothing you can do except tell them & leave it to those who know it all then .. just out of curiosity did you pay for the comp before you played ,, ??

He paid and collected his card from the Pro, it was correct and signed (by me as it happens)

Thank-you.

I did pay to enter at a previous date as it was a drawn competition. I came in, went to the pro shop, the pro ticked me off the list of entrants, picked up my card from him and made my way to the first tee (somewhere in there I should have swiped into the PSI). I managed to sign in after the round was complete but that then requires you to wait 3.5 hours before submitting your score. I spoke with the pro, let him know the situation and that I was only interested in the cut. I said I'd happily wait and enter it myself later in the day but he said he would as a favour. No problem I thought, I'll still get my cut. As it turns out when he tried to, people objected and he couldn't enter the score.

bit harsh so in my opinion mate , anyhow good luck with the game you wont be long geting down .. they be complaining if you didnt return or didnt wana get cut .. hard to win .. & i dont mean win as in prizes i mean as in doing the right thing ..

Unless your club has specific rules on this for my take youve signed in and your score should have counted, that said I know many clubs where you would be automatically DQ'ed

It's a tough one but I'm glad he got the cut he wanted and deserved. The committee can disqualify him under rule 33-7 but, if it does, the score cannot be accepted under CONGU rules although, curiously, it has to be entered on the player's handicap record.

Welcome to the Forum Sundance and well done on your recent form.

Unless there is a local rule in place, then I think that your committee are totally wrong. You reported to the Pro shop, you were issued with a card, you played the game, you correctly completed and signed your card, and handed it in.

I'm sure that if I am wrong then someone will quickly put me right but, as far as I'm aware, logging on into a computer before and after a round of golf is not a requirement under the Rules of Golf. OK, it might help the handicap secretary, but that is all.

I also cannot see how you can have a rule such as that. Surely, it is just limited to submitting your scorecard properly completed and duly signed? Anything else is a request or courtesy not a rule?

This is a funny one. Although we've had PSI for a while now and so it should be second nature to sign in, it still catches people out. Sundance's nephew Butch Cassidy (to his Sundance otherwise known as Bash as well) also won a comp recently but didn't sign in. Must be a missing chromosone.

The thing with Matt (Sundance) is that he's done it properly. He's entered every comp going and played well enough to keep coming down. He'll be down further again soon too. However in doing so he has won a few competitions and that has brought the bandit bashers out in force. There is a big Sunday roll up group that play and they've not let Matt join because they are scared he'll keep taking the money and that he's a bandit. Ridiculous and childish and I told some of the guys who run it so during a medal recently. Matt has a perfectly traceable handicap history. He has benefitted from joining a club where you can get on easily and so plays a few nights a week and from some coaching.

I'm glad he got the cut and common sense prevailed. Hopefully he'll plateau soon (the pro will be pleased when he has to pay for gear agian and not use vouchers too) and then bob between the odd 0.1 back, the buffer zone and the odd cut. At least he'll remember to sign in before going out to win next time
