I was just thinking back to last season, On one of our medals I started off Birdie eagle, eagle, birdie (6 under for 4 holes) including a 60 yard chip in over trees blind.
In the space of the last 14 holes though I managed to blow it and end up 6 over, 1 under handicap.

Anyone else blow a good start or do something similarly stupid?

I'd be gutted, Brendy. One of mine was the other way round.

Playing in a 5 day open qualifier and played really badly on the way out (46 I think) so looking like missing out. Gave up, relaxed and shot 4 birdies in 8 holes on the way back. Unfortunately also had an 8 at the par 4 17th. Out in 11 over, back in par and qualified comfortably. I just ignore my scores now!

Yea, I take it on a hole by hole basis now as a 5 over front nine doesnt mean all is lost, a series of pars can quickly build up in my game and end up either no worse than my front 9, sometimes better off. Having such a good start and not trying to do anything differntly either still managed to end up only getting a low prize that day. As you said, gutted!

Not my round, but in a winter stableford yesterday, on temps, one of the guys shot 50 points. 50. I knew my 42 would be solidly mid table, but 46 is normally a good score. (with the temps the course plays a lot shorter, and we have double buckets on the temps too). 50! it's obscene.

50 points should never happen haha thats awful.
Saying that my brother was given an artificially high handicap when he started back into the game last year, he was given say 20, when his cards were closer to 11-12, he won the first two competitions of the year with something like 49 & 48 points, he was embarassed to collect his prizes even after saying to the handicap sec a couple of weeks previous. Needless to say hes off 10 now! haha.

Cant really remember and mad rounds but I have had a few instances where I havent stopped laughing for ages, even now looking back its still funny.

Was playing over in Millport with a few mates. 17TH par 4, mate drives off, slightly right off the tee into semi, proceedus to thereafter shank his second shot OB, which hits a cow square on the rump and bounces back into play by about 3 inches and the ball comes to rest beside a clump of reeds. He then hacks the ball about 20 yards forward still in rough, pulls out his six iron and has an almighty swish. The bugger holed his six iron for the most amazing par I have ever witnessed, not only that it was a net birdie which won him £4.60 X3 in the skins!

Everybody bar the cow was rolling about for hours with laughter. Priceless!

I was off 13 at the time I went out in 47 and back in 35 but my biggest nightmare was when I had 5 birdies in a round (h/cap was 11 so -5 took it to 16) And on the other 13 holes with a revised cap of 16 I COULDN'T break par. I almost broke the F****n' putter, driver, 3 woo..........
