I was sat reading an article about has club development really come that far or not, since the turn of the new millennium. A lot of what was said sounds spot on.

Irons don't go any further now than they did, they just have lower lofts and longer shafts. A driver hit out of the middle will go just as far then as it does now. A putter is a putter and how much technology can you actually put into them to make them better. A lot of research is going into shafts as they can seriously change the way your ball reacts with the club face.

All though that is just a brief outline of what the article said, it really got me wondering what my bag would look like if I could have back any clubs I have ever owned. It would look something like this:

TM R540XD TP True Temper Bi-Matrix shaft. Shame the buggers went and banned it 😱
TM SuperFast 2.0 TP 3 Wood. By far the best all round 3w I have ever owned. Fairway or tee it flew fantastically.
2-PW TM 300 Forged irons Precision Rifle 6.5 shafts. The control and accuracy was fantastic.
Mizuno MP-T4 wedges.
PING Scottsdale TR Putter.

I can; because, with only 4 individual exceptions, I have them all from the last 35 years

frequently take them out for a jolly at the range, and occasionally a round

some have been in the 'standby' bag and get used in earnest from time to time but I use the latest ones because I prefer them

they are longer, because for me they are easier to hit properly/consistently - that's why they are in the bag!

Only had three sets

First set were called big bombers and bought them from a PX in Turkey in the 90's

Then when I took up golf properly I got a set of nike ignites

Then had a set of R9 but after 6 months got rid

And now had my current set for 3 years and they are my favourite

I have had starter set , Air Bears , Pings , Titleist CB690, X20, Callaway forged , Titliest MB and now TM , they my best

Not sure about woods/wedges/putters but the best irons I've owned are probably Callaway X-14 Pro series. Still have them and they still come out from time to time when my ball striking goes AWOL. They date back to around 2000 I believe.

I take it (hope) you are not an Accountant!

Current set of irons and woods is pretty much perfect for me. Though TM300s w Rifle 6.0s(had 5 sets - in various locations - at one stage and 6 in total) would be pretty close. McGregor VIP Wedges would be a positive addition! And maybe a 2 and 4 (Adams) Hybrid setup rather than the current 3 Rescue.

My mid - late 90's set comprised...
Great Big Bertha Driver 10°
Cally Steelhead 3 and 5 woods
3-SW TopFlite Tour irons
Ping Darby putter

I was the best in the World with these........:fore:

Man after my own heart, I take it you liked the 300 forged too....😀

not played that long so not a massive amount of stuff used.

MP32 2-pw if i could still get a set band new, fantastic clubs and very forgiving. had a hit with the old 6 iron i still have. not far off distance wise to my JPX's

I have had the same set of irons for the last 25 years, so they would be my favourite. Didn't play much for 16 of those. Only had two sets, but about to take the plunge again.

Was it that obvious?

Miura forged (fwiw) and the most I paid (typically for ones I liked least!) was £115 - most were about £80! Felt better than the CB201s I had for a while, but a lot of that was down to the shaft, which seems to match me (as opposed to PX5.5s). Also had Miura Tournament Blades w Rifle 6.0s that felt great on links or in Summer but were severely compromised in juicy grass! TM300s were/are a great 'compromise that performed'!

1set slazenger
then I have had 3 set of callaway big Bertha,x14 now xhot2
also had ping i3 and top flight magna clubs.
to many woods to mention :o
