What type of competitions generally make up your clubs calender in the summer/supposed warmer months?

At my club some of the less able golfers started complaining at the end of last season saying there was too many singles competitions. They mobbed up and bleated long enough to get some changes.

Looks like we have got some Saturdays completely wasted with garbage team comps now

We play team comps all winter so why the hell are we wasting potential qualifier time in summer???

Very interested in thoughts from the forum.

We have 90% medals and a couple of single stablefords through the summer.. April to Oct

Singles, doubles and mixed matchplay...

As you say, silly team comps through the winter..... IF THE COURSE EVER OPENS AGAIN!!!!!!!!!

A mix for us

Each month we have one weekend medal and stableford and one midweek comp

On top of that we have various board comps ranging from foursomes , 4BBB , Greensomes , scrambles and medal/stableford

Also through the year we have the club KO's - mixed , men foursomes , scratch and HC

Individual medals or stablefords all season for us at the weekend except for one Texas Scramble, one better ball and one Canadian Greensomes.

We generally have three weekend qualifiers a month and these are roughly 2 stroke and one Stableford plus a couple of bogey comps through the year, which is a fair mix.

There are numerous matchplay KO comps going on and a couple of midweek qualifiers a month, one stroke and one Stableford.

Over the winter we have a winter league, a few scrambles and the fur and feather.

I'm pretty happy with the mix but a few more qualifiers wouldn't go amiss.

Edit: I forgot, there are also several greensomes, 4BBB etc, over the summer but usually on the Saturday (Our comp day is Sunday).

I thought you'd be made up.

Team games are the first bastions of bandits.:D

Got a good mix across two clubs but I also hate those so-called "fun" competitions that seem to take over the calendar in the tail end of the season.

Mostly Medal with a few stablefords at weekends throughout the summer. One Texas Scramble and a 'bring a mate' pairs BB stableford comp, a few internal matches ( vs ladies & juniors etc ) which are 4BBB. Some fun format or other on the professionals day for a laugh.

Medal pretty much every weekend.

1 or 2 Stableford comps on a Saturday, midweek qualifier is Stableford every Wednesday.

There is 1 scramble usually but 99% sure that's before the qualifiers kick in.

I wouldn't be happy if qualifiers were replaced by team comps in the summer other than the odd one, plenty time in winter like you say.

1 medal, 1 stableford each month , weekend and midweek
On top of that there are the matchplay knockouts and a spattering of other comps, sometimes team, sometime solo - all at weekends....us 5 dayers don't get all that guff....:whoo:

The first couple of medals are non counters then we have a couple of team comps, from then on it is pretty much medal stroke play all the way to the end of the season. Only a couple of comps that are not. I think I can play over 50 medal stroke play rounds at ours during the summer.

Mostly individual stableford plus a few pair events (usually they have a theme ... parent/child or couple or tiger/rabbit or something like that) which are normally played either as 4BBB, chapman or scramble. We also have one or two purely fun ones each year, like the Oktoberfest-Comp, where drinking games and the like are integrated in the round.

I'd say after glancing at my diary we are 90% strokeplay, 6% Stableford and 4% Team/Pairs from mid-March right through to mid-October either on every Saturday or the Sunday, but almost every weekend. There are a few more team events leading up to the season and afterwards and also we have a roll-up Stableford comp every Monday.

Ours are nearly all singles except for 2 foursomes and a fourball, all of which are qualifiers for county/national events. Of the singles 75% are medal rounds.

Mainly strokeplay BUT the thing is the mens don't start until three weeks after the ladies have commenced their season and have got FIVE comps in before the men have even started. I have drafted a letter that I will be sending to the club about my concerns over this. Plus we have gaps in the diary as well. the ladies DO NOT !!! Ridiculous situation. I will not be parting with my money this season unless things change.
