Have you got one stand-out round that is head and shoulders above the rest?

I had mine on Saturday on a golf society outing to Rufford Park in Nottinghamshire. I play off 22 and have been shooting in the 90s all year - just plodding along with stableford scores in the high 20s and occasionally low 30s. Then, for no apparent reason, I had an 84 on Saturday and scored 44 points : 6 pars, 10 bogies and just 2 doubles. Second place was 36 points so I walked it (cue much bandit name-calling)!

I wasn't doing anything differently, but everything just seemed a bit easier than normal. Any tips for how to make this happen again... and again... and again!!

Played at Thornton in the early summer and went round in 2 over par. By far the best 18 holes I've ever put together.
Not a medal so there was less pressure but nice to know I can do it. I think the oddest thing was there weren't a great number of long puts or any pitch ins, it was just very steady fairways and greens in regulation.

I don't have an all time stand out round, but this year it would have been 18 holes on Cornelia Faldo in Belek.

I forgot my GG that morning, so cant review the stats ( although I was +4 on The National a couple of days later) but at Faldo everything just clicked. Drives were ripped and found the short stuff, mid irons were solid and found the heart of pretty much every green and I had a birdie putt on all the Par 3's - two of which I birdied

I wish i had the full GG stats to swoon over. I just remember it being a warm sunny morning and I played golf the way I dream of.

Once you have done it you know you can again. You will find that it wasn't all that difficult compared to how you thought it would be.

My best is a 71, not in a medal. I did have one round where it all clicked. I was -2 after 12 and it looked like I could get to -4 by the end. It was a tie and the guy wasn't all that keen on continuing after a 7 and 6 thumping so I guess I'll never know.

Believe!!! - Well done Shep, now you know you can go comfortably under 90 that should be your new benchmark as you know you can do it.

My low rounds were around 2005/06. Had a 77 in a medal (par 70), in the same year I shot a 79 but that included a 9 on the card at a par 4 and felt it was a better round. Standouts though, were an 83 at Carnoustie, only because I played the back 9 in 2 over in very windy conditions.

I've had two 79's, an 84 and an 85 recently. There seems to be a point when you climb onto that ledge you've been trying to get to. Looks like you managed it. It'll suddenly fall into place now.

Hit 2 over (off 12) in a knockout match earlier this year. Still only won it on 17th.

Granted you've got gimmies in there, but we weren't being generous.

I had an awful start to the year shooting a few 90s when playing off 16. had a few 83's and 84's. Then in the qualifier for the club championship I shot a 77 net 61, 40 on the front and 37 coming back for my best knock ever. Got docked 2 shots from my handicap and qualified for the 36 hole final which i threw away on the greens!

Quality day

Shot my only sub par (-1) round in my last comp in Scotland - off 9. Came 2nd in Nett and 4th in Gross. It was a pretty calm day!

Not really a round as I played only 11 holes, but it was probably my best golf.

I won a club scratch KO semi final against a 2 handicap county player [I was 7 up and he conceded]
I had lost to him at semi final level the two previous years.
He was not a very sporting opponent so, an enjoyable win.
Lost the final on the 36th in a great game.

Shot 79 around Wellow a few years back. Not the toughest course though. I remember shooting 82 at Teign Valley, which i remember well.

79 on each of our courses last season, both in bounce games. both days the game just clicked, plenty of fir and gir, and a few birdies and no doubles.

best in comp is an 80, twice last year and once this year.

Lincoln step. Snap. My best ever round was at Rufford Park I shot an 86 playing off 24. Now the bad news. No disrespect to an excellent round but Rufford is very well known for chopping down all its trees and getting rid of hazards to keep a round going. It is liked by society's a lot because there tends not to be many bottlenecks on the course through folk looking for balls etc.
that aside an 84 is still an excellent round there. Some of the holes are gorgeous my fave is the 17th off the top tee.
Views from the clubhouse are fantastic when the weather is right.
not played there since I was nearly fighting on the 1st tee a couple of years ago.
my best ever round was last week when I shot an 88 at our place and never entered the club comp.grrr.
well done me man.

Has to be when therod and I beat Richart and his partner at Blackmoor. Finished them off with a 6 iron to a few feet on the last.

Beats my gross best as forum matches are more fun.
