Went up to the driving range with young grandson this morning with dad and other grandad. He was three in DC and has been four or five times. It is a Saturday roll up to the driving range for kids from 11-12. Costs a fiver and and the pro that takes them is fantastic. Am not just saying that but he has a way of talking to the kids so they can relate to it.
Anyway week before last the pro put a ball basket about 10 yards out on its side, and after the third or fourth attempt he put one sock in the middle. His face was a picture. He put another three or four in. I told mum and dad. But it just seemed to have that " should of been there " factor.
Roll on this week, I asked the pro to put another basket out and young Bradley Tash promptly bladdered the ball five yards past it. Said pro says " Hang on Bradley I will move it back. So he did to about 18-20 yard Grandad tees one up for him, Young Bradley steps up and smacks it down the range, it went 15 yd in the air bounced once with the second bounce landing straight in the middle of the basket.
Me I had seen it before, but dad, Grandad, the pro, and two women who had fetched coffee and stopped to watched the shot were laughing and cheering. Young Bradley turns round, smiles at me and I high fives him. It was magical.
After that it was cold, he started messing about, spilt two drinks in the 19th and was fed up. But for about 10 seconds he was the man/boy. It magical, but maybe you had to be there.
