Earlier on in the year I posted up on the forum asking for any help with accommodation during the Open week, however not only that has been sorted, but also I have been awarded the job I was after at the Open!!!

I will be walking inside the ropes with the players as a scoreboard carrier! Plus the pay ain't bad either, especially considering I would do it for free!!!!! :D :D

Has anyone ever done anything similar before? Just so I know what to expect? Or any tips for things to look out for?

1. dont stand in view of the camera pickin ur nose
2. dont contradict the caddie when he tells the player its a 'soft 6' or a 'punched 7 with a bit of fade'
3. Do try and keep the scorecard updated, instead of drooling over the last 4 iron with a controlled fade, that landed softly and rolled 6ft to holeside.
4 Dont take offence when Monty tells you to 'STAND STILL FFS' as you shuffle forward trying to get a better view from behind the cameraman .....

Many many more......but ENJOY !

i was at troon i think 89 doing a scoreboard. we had walkie talkies and got told off from high up R and A folk but they couldnt find us.brilliant laugh plus get to watch golf. i predict you will end up with 2 signed gloves and two signed balls.

Thanks ChrisMc for the tips!!!

I managed to get it via school, who were one of the schools to run the scoreboards every year however this year they could not take a group up as a school, so I asked if I could have the forms anyway to apply individually! Me and two others applied and we all got jobs as carriers!

It may also help slightly that I know the Chief Scorer for the R&A at the Open Championships…

Although, I'm not a huge fan of "its not what you know, but who…" I am more than happy to take advantage of it!!!

Let's just hope I get decent groups

Any group is a decent group. The worst group on the day would probably rip the courses most of us play to shreds. A great opportunity for you mate.

You better get some training in, those things are heavy. Wait until the wind gets up out at the turn, it'll be like trying to hang onto a runaway horse.

Some hod carrying for the next 3 weeks will have you in shape methinks. Get to it.

I saw someone on the telly make a makeshift cushion out of pipe insulation as I'd imagine that your shoulder will be a mite tender after four days of carrying.

Also, you swine!

Enjoy it :)

- and make sure all the gallery get to see the board on each hole - annoying when a procession of board carriers come through with it facing the opposite side of the fairway all the time
