With new technology being used more and becoming more accessible to todays golfers, do you prefer to use a yardage book that you can buy for a few pounds in a pro shop or do you prefer to look at a GPS system?

With the state of my game, GPS is totally worthless.
OK, 95.5 yds to the pin, select club, practise swing, waggle, last look, then hit a fat 'un that trickles along ankle height for 50 yds. Pointless really!

I have a yardage book plus yardage markers on the course plus my own paced out point of note, example bunkers front, gorse bush, paths etc, I have also added these to my yardage book and then laminated it to keep it dry.A great tip from my 3 rounds caddying at a local course :D All for less than a fiver and I wont need to spend, in my eyes money thats not needed on a gps system. Dont get me wrong if you play lots of other courses than it could be good value but sorry not for me.

If I play a new course I usually play it by eye.

Sky caddy. So easy so simple everytime.

Was approaching the 3 rd green at our gaff last week, had to fly a bunker (110 to carry) short right, pin tucked in tight to it aswell. Wind was very strong in my face and I knewunder normal circumstances it would be a PW or easy 9 for the front. With the wind I wanted to take extra club and so lookedat gps for back yardage. It let me go to an 8. I flushed it knowing at worst I would be at the back but on. As it happens the wind picked up alot as I hit it and it landed level with the pin 12 ft to the right. Looked like I had nailed it but really iwas being cautious and it paid big time. All this was done in about 30 seconds if that.

I've played 2 rounds with my new Sky Caddie and it has been a revelation.

Yardage books: well, without naming any brand names, some are excellent (made with data from a proper on-course survey with from proportionally scaled graphics, accurate distance arcs etc) and some are awful. Sadly, the awful ones are cheaper for the Pros to buy.

I would use yardage book, but if skycaddy was only 40 or 50 quid I would have one, but the benefit I would get in my game would only be small but I might get used to the convenience.

Yardage books are ok when its dry and fine but when its
pi??ing down and blowing a gale the GPS come in to its own quick look at the screen and the info is there

I have never used a yardage book during a round. I am relatively new to the game and very much in the GPS camp as before using my skycaddie I just used to guess with my eye / 150 markers. This means I can't vote for one option or the other really but a DMD has to be easier and more efficient.

Having read the subscriptions post on Skycaddy, just when Im gaining interest again along comes Mr Glitch. With this info there seems to be annual expenses as well??? If you subs run out so does the data, pah! Back to yardage books.

GPS but on a new course definitely both unless you have a system that gives you a decent plan view.

in my, albeit limited, experience, there is more duff info in yardage books than is on GPS, and sorry to say my course is one of them - doesn't even offer a printed correction sheet.

After this afternoon I'm defo with new technology. Going back to the yardage book was hard work - I don't do hard work ;)

Choosing technology is fine with me but 'Hard work' using yardage chart???? Does someone lift you out of bed in the morning? :D
