Best project car I have done was a 92 Nova GSi with a 3 page MOT failure list. Stripped down and a C20LET 2.0 Turbo from a Calibra dropped in with a 6 speed box, Cavvy GSi brakes and dropped 60/40 front/back with a custom stainless 3.5" exhaust with no middle box.

Absolutely mental machine.

I'd love to be able to say I did the work on my old cars, but I'm clueless when it comes to motors, luckily my mate was a dab hand.
I'm happy with my old clapped out van these days whilst the Mrs picks the car.

All this started when i went for an mot last week and an escort xr3 x reg rolled in behind me, same car as i use to have in my youth, now i feel the need to have one again. it is a need

Around 10 years ago I had a 1964 Mini Cooper (s). I would like to say it was a great car but alas I had forgotten how bad they were compared to modern cars.

I was an XR2 man myself, same engine but better handling than the escort.

Love 90's hot hatches! Owned mk2 golf gti, Renault 5 turbo, 205gti,

Would love a 205 gti again with a decent engine, that or a mk1 golf with the Audi s3 turbo lump from the late 90s.

I used to have one of the first models from 1981. Bought it in 1982 when I returned home from the Falklands. Bright red with all the added extras, and cost me £5400 for a car that was 18 months old. I still have the registration burned into my memory, ODB492W. Happy days. 20 years old at the time and how I never got pulled up for speeding in that car is still a mystery to me.

I had an Xr3i, (LOW769Y), when my wife went into labour in 1987.
By the time my son was born I'd cashed it in and got a Montego Turbo!
C445CCR was ten times the car the Escort was, honestly it was, but can I find one now?
I've discovered that there are only fifty now registered in this country ...................... I want one!

Slime.

I had a 1987 VR2 and swapped to a 1991 Honda Civic VTi, which loved to rev to 8000 rpm. Took a bit of practice holding it in gear after the Ford. Best car I had until my middle aged current Audi A6.

:D It seems a while ago now (1990) But After passing my test at 17 I bought a 1.8i cavalier Sri - insurance £580,then a year later a 205 1.9 gti - insurance £940 iirc.
At the time most of my mates were driving similar.

I'm a bit out of touch nowadays, I've just drove a company vehicle for the last 14 years but what insurance would a 17 year old pay for a bog standard fiesta ??

Its crazy looking back... I thought I was a good driver at the time but thinking about it no way was I or others I knew mature enough to be allowed to drive cars like that at that age.
I didn't drive like a total knob but I knew plenty that did.

Great cars at the time though, shame you don't see many on the roads anymore.

Best motor I ever owned was a Sierra Cosworth with an implanted XR4TTi engine from the states. Poo of a spade wasn't even close to it.

It was a wolf in sheeps clothing, I debadged that whole car, so looking at it you wouldn't know what it was capable of. I used to love sitting at the lights with some scrote in their motor thinking the would race of on me, then just blip past them laughing, The good old days,

Now I accelerate gently to save fuel and look at kids doing what I did thinking they are stupid.. The age is showing lol

I had a Rover 220 GTI Turbo in the mid 90's. At the time it was pretty nippy. 0-60 in just over 6 seconds. Think there were only 500 ever made.
