Hi All,
I need some advice on drivers please. I have a cheap Hippo OS4 460 at the moment and want a decent driver at a lowish cost, I was thinking about getting the TM R7 for £150 but I read that its for the more advanced golfer? Or I was thinking about the King Cobra F? but I have seen a MacGregor V-Foil Eye-O-Matic M38 but I am slightly put off by the size of the head, can anyone advise if it makes much of a difference?

Also one last thing, are Hotblade Tad Moore wedges any good?

Get last years F speed cobra its the nuts i tried all new drivers yesterday i prefer mine still. you can pick one up for 90 pounds dont need to spend a load on a new season driver.

aslo the Ping G5 is still a good option too
Its up to you after all.

Don't know about the wedges, but they look nice. The blurb says they have very little bounce, and the edge is sharp, and sits flat, so it depends if this is you - More likely to fat it than thin it with these wedges.

Driver wise, not sure. Mate has an eye o matic driver. These are 45 quid at direct golf. Very loud (but this was before the cobra and nike latest, which are stupidly loud).

The Cobra F is reduced every where, but suits a faster swing speed, so again, if this is you, lucky man. Just need to put some cheese in your ears to drown out the noise.

I like TM drivers. Very solid feel and noise. Get the weights set right, and don't fiddle, and this is a very good driver. I have an R7, and it is lovely. Make sure it is legal though, as there are a lot of illegals around (illegals R7s have max stamped on the face).
I have not tried the R7 425 but have heard good reports too.

Chewck this out. I gave my driver which is an X SPEED cobra to my ates missus and she hit it further than her driver. So Im lost about that. you can get a regular flex f speed it was too wippy so i got a stiff f then a x speed . GO hit them at your local range .

Read Cobras web page - the F speed was designed for faster swing speeds, thats just the way it is. It might go very well with a slower speed, but you might not be getting the best out of it that's all.

A bit like hitting 4 piece balls (prov1x). If you don't compress it to the core, you don't get the benefit, although you may still like it anyway.

I have never hit a cobra product, and never will. Likewise Ping. Don't know why, it just doesn't appeal.

The Cobra is cheap enough, and a lot of guys on here rave about them. Half the price (nearly) of the TM, so a good deal.

Time to make a choice I think....

The Cobra is a lot more modern than the Macgregor, and will be easier to off load if you don't like it. It also is more 'mainstream'. Given a limited budget, I think this would be my choice (if it didn't have Cobra written on it).

Wait til later tonight, and I am sure the Cobra boys will be on to advise.....

parmo, I'm in your territory - prone to a slice, pretty new to the game and I just got an r7 11.5 deg R shaft draw biased (directgolf). Magic stick!
Yes you can still slice, but much much less - more of a push(?), but this is now all down to the nugget on the end not the driver.
However as has been said, (a lot!) just because it suits me . . . so go out and spend a couple of hours trying lots of toys!
also tried the Ping G10, Titleist D1 and D2, and a Srixon - the Srixon was best of these; the r7 was better.

I am toying with idea of changing as well. Have tried the G10 with both the stiff Highlaunch V2 shaft & stiff red Prolaunch shaft. Hit both well, though preferred the red Prolaunch shaft as it gave me a more penetrating ball flight.

Only thing stopping me buying one is I would like to try new Callaway Hyper-x and the Cobra L4V. I used to get on really well with an old King Cobra when I first started out and always had a soft spot for them.
