X factor winner

I honestly can't believe that a dodgy karaoke competition, albeit one with slightly higher production values than those of similar events staged down the Dog & Duck, is still being trotted out as top class entertainment for the great British public.

It exists for but one reason and one reason only. That's to make Simon Cowell even more wheelbarrow-loads of money, year-on-year, at the exploitation of the seemingly gullible general public, who for some odd reason cannot see what is going on and are happy to be duped by the hype machine.

Fair play to her though - she can certainly sing

Great to see Adele and Coldplay live

Yes she can certainly sing and she's got talent definitely - but the cynical process and hype surrounding it makes me want to chuck up. Proper talent (Adele, Coldplay, Kate Bush, The Feeling, Ed Sheeran etc etc) does not need, and has never needed Cowell's disingenuous talent machine to find it.

He has so many chart artistes in his stable, all sounding almost identical too because so few of them can write, that it's just retrogressive and bad for popular music in general.

Real musicians will find their niche without the likes of Cowell getting his (who knows how high a percentage) of their earnings as a result of their moderate abilities, but more often than not, exceptional good looks.

Never watched it and never will. But did the winner by any chance sing 9 notes when 2 will do. And charge around the octave range like a bull in a china shop under the mistaken impression that the technical ability to hit 17 notes in 5 seconds conveys any emotion and heart?

That's a bit unfair on people that can actually sing , write songs and play music

Whilst the whole premise of the X Factor is a bit car crash - it does find some very talented singers and musicians

Just because they find their way into the industry via a talent show doesn't mean they aren't real musicians or talented.

Music is and always will be a personal taste - the young girl who won could clearly sing , even One Direction can sing , write music and play the piano etc

There is so many different ways now for the artists to get themselves know , social media is very big just as talent shows are

Taking away the circus of the show - it is good to see young talented people get given a chance

Sorry, are you describing Berry Gordy at Motown or Simon Cowell? ;)

Look, talent shows have been occurring since god was a lad. Also record label owners controlling their artists very tightly and profiteering from them has been going on ever since the record industry started. And artists have been getting others to write their records for them for ever. And the choice available to punters is better than it has ever been.

Just because you wrote your own song does not make it any more valid or a better record or song than a record in which the artists has not written it. You quote The Feeling as an example of what we should aspire to, I could argue they are a tediously mediocre band doing absolutely nothing original at all. I could argue Coldplay, whilst good when they started, have just become a weak paradoy of themselves. It's horses for courses.

I've seen 1D and they do what they do extremely well, they are an introduction into music for a lot of young kids and they generate excitement and hopefully a life long love of music for kids. All they are are The Killers for young girls really, the songs are very similar in structure and composition. My daughter has the Little Mix album and some of the songs are quite weird interesting pop songs.

All the majority of Cowell's acts do, well the winners at least, is get a xmas number 1 at best, and that's it. The vast majority then go back into obscurity. And the ratings are down anyway so people are getting bored of the program. Don't fret it, so back to listening to 'real' music made by 'real musicians' if you want, but don't con yourself that it is intrinsically any better than any other kind of music. As if that was the qualification for making a record then there would not half be a lot of pedestrian meat and potatoes middle of the road dad rock out there.

Even hid has got to the stage where she tapes it and the flicks through it the following day in about 15 minutes. It's an hour or two hour show that could be compressed down massively.
would not argue against the case that there has been some talent discovered, and some were not even winners. In fact one sung at my daughters wedding.
But it's a programme to watch with red wine and crackers it is so cheesy.

Could say the same about the golf!

not mine if you were watching the highlights about one min would be enough. At least if Peter Allis is commentating it does not feel like you are wasting away.

When Missis T was flickin through last night. Two things that made me smile.

1, Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole? Both Standing up to give a standing ovation then sitting back down straight away when they realised the winner had not finished.

2, Leona Lewis, I thought her and Simon Crowell had fell out and she was no longer part of his stable. By the way I think Leona is the best thing to come out of X factor.
