Evening all.
Another question- After replacing my 5 wood this week too (along with my beautiful Vokey :p) I have compared them, side by side.
My old one was from a cheapy Prosimmon set which had 21* loft and a god awful "rubber" (read way too flexible) shaft.
New one is Taylormade Burner TP which has 17.5* loft, regular shaft. Obviously I expected differences in face angle etc but it's the actual size that is soo different.
I know they say size doesn't matter...

The TM is miles smaller- I'd guess it must have half the volume of the others head. I noticed this when we replaced my wifes 3 wood some time ago too.
Which do you prefer? I'm hoping this smaller head will be better of the fairway as this is an area I'm keen to improve on (along with my dreadful putting) as soon as possible!

I use to play with a Callaway Steelhead+ in both a 3 and 5 wood and it had a tiny head compared with todays monsters. It made my current 3 and 5 seem almost driveresque in size. However the main thing is how you use it. There has been a lot of advacnes in terms of weight distribution and shafts etc and so even though the TM has less loft it may fly as high (or higher) than your old model.

It depends on where you play and what you are looking for. If you want to hit high flying shots into greens you will need to get one that get the ball up. However if you play on a windy course or a links you may need something with a more penertrating flight.

Get out there and try as many as you can before buying. As you say they do vary.

Teeshot....I prefer the smaller headed clubs.I don't use a driver just a 3 wood and prefer a 7 wood, either off the tee or the fairway on a long hole(when I stuff up my 3 wood off the tee!!)
Small heads are great behind the ball!Give you confidence,I think!
These 460cc heads and fairways are huge and certainly don't make me feel confident about hitting them(open to all???) :D

Homer- I play a very, very windy (at times) course- click my signature link to it to have a peep if you like. It sits high up in above the sea out to Ilfracombe and sometimes it can be tough getting the ball off the damned tee! I liked the idea of a lower, more penetrating flight so went for the TP version which is supposed to do what I want. It'll be good to have it in the bag for those windy days, and as I say this is going to get a lot of use off the deck on the par 5's- I've been struggling with distance from my second shot and hope this smaller head will be better than my previous club- I'm sure it will be.
Toyboy- I prefer my 3 wood to driver most times as I tend to stuff the driver off the tees now and again. That said, I've not had the new driver long, and have had to make adjustments to how light it is, and how much longer too!

My fairways are Titleist 906F2's which have very compact heads for a modern fairway. These are great, but not many can have thought so, as they got withdrawn from sale pretty quickly, and the f3's were released instead (bigger shallower head, not for me).

I am happy with a 460cc driver, but my fairways have to be compact. The 906f2's are the first woods I have seen that I have liked since the Mizuno T3s', which are donkeys old (still got them in the cupboard, just in case).
