Absolutely would have a brief look if it's an important point in the match or other circumstances merited it. Wouldn;t spend ages hunting though. And I'd expect my opponent to graciously accept that I have every right to do so. And depending upon who I'm playing I might look even if it wasn't crucial or an important match.

I didn't read before voting, I would always look but if they say not to then I wouldn't. Looking for a ball is to assist them. If they don't want me to I am happy with them taking their penalty.

It would depend...

At one extreme, where they made a habit of playing provisionals and would search for the first ball for 5 minutes if they hit a bad one but always suggest it was lost let's get on when they hit a peach, I may well wander to my ball via the area of their first...

But I would make such an issue out of it with most people :)

No. What's the point? They're sitting stroke and distance down on the hole anyway. Alternatively, you find it. He hack 50yds further down the fairway and sticks his 3rd shot next to the flag....

Let's say we're talking singles matchplay and we're talking tee shots. If it was a crucial stage of a match I was bothered about winning; his provisional was in great shape - and my tee shot looked like it was in trouble, then sure as blazes I'd have a look for his ball whether he wanted me to or not.

If they asked me not to then no. I hate looking for golf balls at the best of times and I'm not so desperate to win that I have to go searching against someones will in the clag
