I know it's a bit of a cliche but if you were playing a friendly round of golf with, say, a prospective new boss/client/father-in-law(!), would you let him win?

Nope.

I actually tried to beat my father-in-law at golf several times in a bid to prove I was worthy of marrying his daughter.

Worked too! ;)

I couldn't allow myself to lose a game on purpose and be happy. I find it easy enough to lose when trying to win! :D

Aye.

Invited down to a rather expensive gaff east Edinburgh for 36 holes and lunch, all paid for.Played for £20 and had a putt on the last to win, only a five-footer but I thought it would be only fair not to take £20 off the guy as well as him paying for the entire day.No biggie halfing the match and keeping him happy.I enjoyed my day regardless, he enjoyed getting a half.Everyone happy.

id never throw a match, but if i was turning the bloke inside out so to speak id make a few little mistakes to give him something to try and build on.... once i was a safe way in the lead ;)

Have been told to do it numerous times through work , my boss would have people down & be treating them to golf & id be told entertain them dont beat them .. not always easy as some of them were rubbish ha . one exception is when we sponsor open day in the club thats an official comp so its played straight up , happend to play with an old boy one day in the open day comp that i had previously let win in a knock about ,He said to me in front of the boss that night at the presentation (id finished 2nd) this lad has improved greatly it must have been the advice i gave him that helped , nearly burst out laughing . the old boy is still a good customer & i got a well done nod off the boss so happy days .. every1 wins

never in golf - might concede a putt for a half in a friendly game

have deliberately given a chance to a woman in pool match once(no she wasnt fit :p ) she was 50 ish not very good at the game ,she was filling in as the team was short & didnt want to beat her too badly as she was bit worried about playing in the first place & letting her team down, I let her get to 2 balls & i cleared up 5 balls

if someone threw a game against me i wouldnt be happy tbh
when i played one of the pro pool players he threw it as i was honest on a foul he didnt see & he deliberately jawed a ball to miss

Don't know about boss/father-in-law but I did once throw a game of crazy golf against my son when he was 8. Well, I had beaten him the previous 7 times and Mrs MN was giving me a look. :D

Sure....why not.

I wouldn't expect the other player to know I was doing it either, I'd just get sloppy with my alignment and take no practice strokes with the flat stick.....easy.....

Like most days really. :o :D
