So, I popped to the range and bumped into a veteran member of my club. He had a brand new set of clubs, the make of which I couldn't see but are custom made and he got them in the USA

What was so different was that they, 5 to p/w, are all made with the same length of shaft and same overall weight. The only difference was the loft and They were built in a 7 iron shaft length. I didn't like the look or the idea but the owner said, for him, they all went straight

I can't see hitting a p/w with a 7 iron length shaft any more sense than using a 5 iron with that shaft

Any thoughts?

My 7 iron is one of my favourite clubs So I like the sound of this. The longer the club, the more I have difficulty with it. Hitting the same length club but with different lofts makes sense to me from a perspective of hitting the ball straight. Yes, you will lose some distance, I get the physics of longer shafts, but if it gives you more consistent and straighter ball striking then yes please. One for the higher handicappers.

I should add, perhaps contradicting myself, I am happy to go shorter shafts on shorter irons, 8, 9, PW etc, but to have no shaft longer than a 7 iron on clubs such as 6, 5, 4 irons.

Idea has been around for ages
Just like most innovative ideas, people would rather stick with something conventional which doesn't work for them, rather than something novel which does.

Look at how many people use clubs and putters that they like the look of.

Dave Pelz used to say "Use 2 putters for different lengths if it makes you score better".
