Just reading an email from our pro shop about another satisfied customer. Said customer went away hitting his Brand new Taylormade Jetspeed 3 wood 14 yards further with a 7 mile an hour faster swing than his previous three wood.

Surely there is only one of two things that has happened here, 1) he is swinging faster regardless of the club that's in his hand. 2) the club is longer giving a faster club-head speed not a faster swing per say.

Surely the speed of body and arm rotation isn't increased just by holding a different club?

I play with many players who swing much slower than me and out carry my drives, I don't think the speed of any given swing is the key indicator, is it? Bigfoot yesterday seemed a lot quicker than me at times, and he's a big lad, but I out drove him most of the round by a long way, so, why the fascination with speed, surely a smoother tempo is more critical, a faster swing could create an erratic tempo and more lag, couldn't it?

Extra shaft length? Lighter shaft? Combination of both?

Especially how clubs, not just TM, are being designed today. Take the 49(... ish) gram Myzaki shaft in Cleveland drivers.

If the person in the OP has/had a 3 wood from sat 10 years ago, I would argue that a newer club would offer the extras described in the OP simply for the reasons stated above.

no it isn't, but you risk the continued confusion in peoples minds of 'swing speed'' and 'club head speed' - (as did the Pro if you've quoted him correctly)

the issue is the latter, and through the impact zone.

so yes, the club (which includes the shaft and all the dynamics right down to aerodynamic head shape) will have a massive effect on it in the same hands with what is, to all intents and purposes, the same 'swing' (body and arm rotation).
