Yes, even though I'm not playing as much as I used to and I looked at only playing once a week as a minimum over the year at £1400, its only around £25,

Because of the accident in April I did not pay the membership and the club were happy to wait. I just rejoined this week even though it is going to cost me a chunk more than just paying a guest fee with mates as I feel a proper part of the club, I can bring guests, play in the comps etc. Not sure it was a rationale or even sensible move but....

Glad to hear you are back in Paul. I was missing my games at Bearwood Lakes.:)

I paid mine 1 week prior to my accident :(

Absolutely not for me - at £1500 a year it is rather nuts. But that's what it costs to be a member of a decent golf club hereabouts and I value greatly being a member of a golf club.

Defiantly worth it for me - reckon all my rounds of golf this year all over the country will be around a tenner a round

Playing once a week because of family commitments it was working out to £27 per round plus £5 entry fee plus £10 on drinks and Snacks. £42 per round it doesn't seem to make alot of sense to me personally, when I could get on the majority of courses around here for that, without the annual commitment required.

When renewals come round I ask two questions: Can I afford it, and do I want to do it. If the answer is yes I pay and forget about it. What I pay per round never crosses my mind. I'm not even sure if I could get signed in as a member at the time I like to play and if I could I'm sure questions would soon be asked if I did it every week. I definately couldn't just rock up and pay a green fee so on that basis it's worth it.

It is value for money given the time I spend there. If it gets much more expensive (muted talk of £50 on next years fees) and quality of the course doesn't match then perhaps time to think again

So were 100 votes in and it's near as damnit that 20% of membership is not making financial sense.

Worrying for clubs if this is representative of the actual numbers BUT seeing as this is a forum where most people live and breathe golf, I suspect that the real percentage is actually higher than 20%.

Of course this was a quick poll and doesn't drill down into the demographics. I would suspect that those getting the best value for their membership have the most opportunity to play due to their age.
