Monty must hate these guys,Shaun Micheel,Rich Beem(both USPGA) Todd Hamilton (The Open)come from nowhere and bag one of golfs greatest prizes, these guys had career peaks just at the right time and now have lost there Tour cards(Micheel failed at Euro Q school this year) all will have to rely on former major winner invites after their major exemptions run out but obviously can play in the majors they won,on the brighter side they will get there own car parking space at these events as a former winner...............:fore:

I would say Monty would have loved to have won a major but unlike the mentioned players above his career never floundered like theirs did after their major victory. He went on to win multiple times including his record 8 OOM titles after his near misses.

To me his career is far more pleasing to look back on.

Ian Baker Finch , could not hit the fairway at the 1st at st andrews in the end , now thats wide

I agree, not a fan of the 'personality' but his golf career is second to none.

[back on topic] Frankly I'm still surprised that Bubba managed to win the Masters.

Baker-Finch was actually a very good player prior to he's Open victory,it was that win that seemed to kill he's career.

Yes you are right , golfers have the yips with putting or chipping , he had it with the game of golf , sad , lots of very good golfers never won one , monty being the best of them i say followed by steve stricker

This is why I argue that world number one's shouldn't have to have won a major. Any one of them can put 4 rounds together and win a major, getting to world number 1 takes consistency over 2 years, not just 4 good rounds

Agreed, way too much emphasis on these as the ultimate.

Depends how recent your talking as Hamilton, Micheel and even until his form and win this year could have included Curtis in that list. Based on his form on last couple years and to be controversial what about Kaymer!

Its just a yardstick the players use , there are many players that play well and win lots of money but dont win much if any , Monty had 8 Order of Merits and his Ryder cup Record , in singles he never lost , i watched him on the range at the Victoria GC in the algarve hitting shots with a 6 iron , it was like watching a video playback , every shot was the same , never seen anyone do that and i always feel if the majors were not played in the US he would have won one or more , the yanks hated him because of the ryder cup because they knew he was a great player

Ben Curtis did have a dip in form after he's Open win but has always been a journeyman pro in the US and Asia, but as you say he seems to have got he's best form back in recent years. As for kaymer I don't think he's got to much to worry about with he's game at the moment, I expect him to do well this year..........

I half agree, but the same guys dont just get to walk into the tournaments, they have to get there on merit.

Sure the craw missed it too, that makes him as good as IBF!
Saying that, I know a guy that did it too and is a decent golfer, didnt even get a lucky kick back into play from the cars parked along the street. :D
