Worst Golf Course in the Dorset and Hampshire.

Worst is a difficult one as it depends on what parameters are being used to judge.

I personally have no issue with a course having short holes, for instance, as long as they are in reasonable condition and not a pushover. There's a course north of Portsmouth called Furzeley which i've played a couple of times and i really liked it. Its a short course with a number of par 3's but its a quirky, interesting course and, when i've played there, in decent condition.

So as long as a course is maintained to a reasonable level then i wouldnt judge a course on anything else.

Will have a think!

The distance can be from 2000 to 7000 yards.

Played 7 courses around the Portsmouth area and IMO (and I know loads will disagree) the worst one was Hayling Island, expensive, poorly signed, snobby clubhouse and shop.

What has that got to do with the quality of the course?

Oooo, drive4show won't be happy!

Yeah, he won't be getting an invite

What constitutes "worse". Are we talking purely upkeep, or does it include things lice accessibility, welcome, cost. A myriad of things to consider and to be honest I'd have for the best value for money. Why focus on the negatives?

Can I have one, played there years ago but wasn't good enough to appreciate it!

Actually, I love this!

Let's look at these individual points.......

Expensive........yes because it's a quality course. They don't come cheap.

Poorly signed.......It really is a course where you walk pretty much from one green to the next tee. Only exception I can think of is 5th green to 6th tee but even then, it's not hard to figure out where to go just by looking where the path goes.

Snobby clubhouse.......not sure where that comes from, maybe you rubbed somebody up the wrong way?

Pro shop......the Pro came up through the ranks from junior to top player, well respected and universally liked by all the members. His assistant is a really good guy as well and building a good reputation as a teacher.

So which others did you play in the area?

I really enjoyed Hayling. Especially the greens!

But....

If you haven't played there before, there are a few tee shots which are baffling, but then the same criticism could be laid at royal county down, a top two course.

It's not that easy to get into the club house, or get served once you are in there.

It's a bit deserted. In December, when it's freezing.

The company on the course can be a bit suspect, and the odd car in the car park is having a mid life crisis.

I'd go back there tomorrow. I loved it.
