World Top 100 - A Quest Complete

How to get onto Augusta National
The story of how he got onto Augusta from a Times-Picayune story on October 20, 1982:

“You can’t imagine how many avenues I took and I was turned down,” he says. He tried a former United States Attorney General and failed. A U.S. district judge and failed. A vice president of Lykes Brothers whose brother is a member and failed; a sportswriter and failed.

He finally accomplished the impossible in a round-about way. His wife Chistina’s sister introduced him to a couple who introduced him to their daughter whose husband is a doctor in Meridian, MS. The doctor has a sister in Augusta who is married to someone in the trucking business. His trucks are insured by a company whose vice president is Phil Harison. Phil Harison’s father is Montgomery Harison who helped found the club.

It was that easy. Got the picture?

if its that easy then ...

Sadly don't have the income to even dream about this conquest!

95 to go for me.

The top 100 is constantly changing so did this guy pick a moment in time or has he played more than 100.

Muirfield at No 3 is probably right. I have been luck enough to have played it about 20 times.

The closest I think I will ever get to playing Augusta is playing the replica Amen Corner holes that are on the Tour 18 course at Flower Mound, Texas (just north of Dallas/Forth Worth airport).

I have enjoyed reading this blog over the last few years - great writing style and insight into many courses that most people will never see - the last post sounds, well, pretty darn special! A very lucky man. There is plenty of great reading here - enjoy

What a shame, Paul, I thought this was you who had completed the quest ...;)

I wish!!
Would love to do the UK Top 200 - although with new exclusive courses on the cards in St Andrews and Surrey soon there will be more hard-to-play courses in the UK than ever! But, a long-term ambition that can hopefully edge closer over the next few years

If the only way to play a certain course is by being minted, or knowing the "right" people then it has no right being on any top list.
IMHO of course
