Off shortly to the London Club as I'm marshalling for 5 days, in fact I got given a walkie talkie yesterday and told I'm lead marshall for the 2nd hole. I did the short par 4 yesterday with only 3 of us as loads of volunteers failed to show up. Later I helped on the 17th as they only had I person and several matches looked like they'd (and did) finish there.

Travelling was a nightmare, the car park was a couple of miles away and everyone was bussed in and out on 16 seater buses, goodness knows how they'd cope if the 10,000 they thought might come all did!!

Watching the action inside the ropes was great though, these guy are from a different golf world to us!

is this on cooncil telly?

Seems to have been watered down from the good old Wentworth matchplay days

I got given a walkie talkie yesterday and told I'm lead marshall for the 2nd hole.
A friend of mine, very experienced marshal, told me "there are a few gaps out there!"

Glad you have not seen the rain we had in Portugal last week :) You would need scuba gear to get back to the car park. :)

Interestingly, there was a tractor pulling cars out of the car park in Portugal for 5 euros a time last week - at the UK events, I gather it was £15-20 to get pulled out if required.

The parking was a problem as it was very wet and they were bussing us in and out. The marshalling worked better as those of us on the early tees were able to move ahead when the 8 groups had gone through, so I managed to do the 2nd, 11th and 17th holes. I saw about 4 matches decided on 17 which was good and I had a walkie talkie to keep in touch with the other lead marshes on holes we helped on.

It's great to be inside the ropes and some of the players were very grateful when we spotted their balks and found them in the deeper clag! All in all another good day but a full days work but well done by my clubs guys
