Pick your World Cup XI.

Only rule, it has to come from this list on the BBC. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-27699398

Here's mines. I tried to stick to one's from 'my era' as much as possible, but there is a couple in there I had to pick that were before my time.

Zoff

Gentile, Beckenbauer, Puyol, Maldini

Zico, Socrates, Rivelino, Falcao

Maradonna, Pele

Manager: Ally McLeod ;)

I'll take the 1970 Brazil team.........

They did always score one more than you!
Best team I have ever seen. Their front five were brilliant, and the last goal against Italy in the final was as good as it gets.

The England defence in 1970 was not bad to keep them to one goal, and if Astle hadn't missed that sitter ... Shame Banks got injured for the West Germany game.

And Bank's save from Pele was , truly, unbelievable....
Those were the days.

Funny thing is I can remember two misses by Pele in that World Cup, more than the goals he scored. One were he shot from the half way line that beat the keeper, and scraped past the post, and the one where he dummied the keeper, ran one side of him and let the ball run the other. Shame he screwed his shot wide, but what showmanship.

Sometimes Ron Conker thinks about the world cups of 1974 and 1978 and dreams of what might have been.
Being beaten by a goal from Archie Gemmill in 1978 was pretty embarrassing though.

What are your chances this World Cup Ron, and do you think England should pick Rooney ?
