Not a new story been on going for a few years now.

Do you really FIFA are bothered there were similar issues in Brazil to a lesser scale. All about the $$$ of it wouldn't be in Qatar anyway.

Not really sure FIF care as long as the stadium are built and the tournament hosted. It seems more an issue with the heavy handed government and their reticence to allow western jounalists in

I think a great many countries have migrant workers who are poorly treated compared to the resident workers and if those countries governments cant/won't deal with it what chance for a football organization

As others have said, old news but still shocking. More proof that FIFA and run by a bunch of self delusional crack pots that are selling what was once the beautiful game to the highest bidder. I know they drone on about expanding the game to new nations, but everyone knows the world cup in Qatar is purely there for one and one reason only, the money. And if migrant workers have to suffer and in some cases die this to make it happen then FIFA are doing a damn good impression of seeming that it's a fair price to pay. They are morally bankrupt and repugnant.

Absolutely!!

Many on here are extremely hypocritical.

They will buy clothing and clubs that have been produced in Far East sweat-shops to keep prices down but are vociferous in their condemnation of Qatar. The motivation for this would appear to be that England failed in its bid to host the 2018 tournament and Qatar winning the 2022 bid is seen by many to be part of the same process.

At least be consistent.

Not entirely true, unless you have been out to the Far East.

Most of these countries have more and more employment regulations which are making 'sweat shops' more uncommon. Also, most American companies have very stringent rules on working hours, compulsory over time, wages, sick pay, etc. I'm out in China quite a bit, and it's a very different country to ten years ago. Malaysia too.

Ok, the working conditions aren't western, yet, but the alternative way of making a living is subsistence farming, or selling your kids.

Whilst that may be true of China much of our clothing these days is manufactured in countries such as Bangladesh where there has been recent evidence of extremely poor and dangerous working conditions.

Ironically the opportunities in some of these countries are so restricted that many choose to become migrant workers in countries such as Qatar.

Perhaps, therefore, we should be looking to address the problem at source.
