I was really looking forward to this but its turned into a bit of a farce what with drug cheats,Norovirus, athletes not allowed to run due to stupid rulings,uk's appaling medal count and of course the usual ridiculous situation of athletes claiming UK citizenship because they once bought a bag of chips in the UK has made the whole thing a dissapointment,views?...

It is what it is.
The Noro virus is a matter of public health, you either quarantine those affected or reschedule the entire games to accommodate them.

It's been exciting to watch , the uk have only just missed out on a couple of medals, so it's not gloom n doom.

The Bolt thing was unfortunate, many think the winner of the 100m shouldn't have been there, but Bolt was also beaten in the Semi, so the romantic vision of Bolt winning his final solo 100m was already under threat.

But overall I'm enjoying it

Dipping in and out, ladies 1500m was a great race, Farah's 10k was also a good watch. 110 hurdles was exciting as was the ladies triple jump a couple of nights back and also enjoyed the mens pole vault last night. Van Niekirk last night in 400 is a special talent, saving himself a bit for the 200m but an easy win.

Can't say I've found the event weakened, Bolt doesn't hit my radar anymore, his fast times were all 7-9 years ago, has never hit those speed heights since. Gatlin winning didn't bother me, was a good close exciting race. Someone missing the 400 for a bug is what it is, the best guy (V Niekirk) was still there.

Crowds are good and weather's been ok, good viewing imo.

I've watched more than ever, nice touch letting the guy run on his own after the virus ban run out 👍

BBC coverage is OK the presenters are just shocking as usual. Get it on sky and give me my TV license fee back

I think Michael Johnson is one of the most insightful commentators out there. Foster and Cram are also excellent and Jess Ennis's coach is a good addition.

So if it's ok I'd rather pay less a month on the BBC with no adverts than I would have to a week to just access sports on sky to see it.

Bored out of my mind with it, yearning for the day the BBC lose the rights to some sports channel we don't subscribe to...

I'm with you Karen, i find athletics about as interesting as watching paint dry.... in fact its not even as interesting as that;)

Its the same as posting in a thread that you have no interest in[why do it].

You don't have to watch as there are 100's of other things to do with your lives, in fact you could distance yourself quite easily from the coverage.

Moaners will moan and haters will hate because that's what they do best.

I am totally the other way and I love athletics and some of the races have been top notch, the crowd have been amazing and have made it a great championship.

We as a nation have well under performed and don't seem to have much depth, however we have also had performances that were better than expected.

the op asked for views.... this was my view

Likewise.

In my case HID loves it so, in the spirit of compromise given all the golf I watch, I end up watching, wouldn't give it the time of day otherwise.

No disrespect to you both but one of the reasons threads turn into arguments is because people post and have nothing to add, not just this one loads of them.

There is a thread about Hoovers for which I have not even looked at because firstly I'm not interested and secondly I can guarantee I have nothing to add.
I could add something that will add nothing but why would I do that, absolutely pointless as I'm sure it would rile someone.

Athletics is not for everyone I know that but these guys and girls have had it tough for a long time, way before they were in major champs
The sacrifices athletes have to make to get anywhere near the top of any sport is amazing and spans years.

I'm sure you will pick me up on something soon I have these mood swings and am far from perfect, just sticking up for something I'm passionate about.

The only one arguing is you :)

I'm not interested in athletics but since I'm currently subjected to watching it night after night I am interested in a thread about it... even if all I want is a wee loan about it.

It'd be a dull place if anyone asking for opinions was only met with boundless positivity!

you posting calling us haters and moaners, doesn't help these things going off though does it ?

the vacuums tread i imagine asks for advice so not the same, the OP asked for opinions on WAC, which i have given..

Have really enjoyed it, bar the disappointing performances from some of the UK athletes. Maybe that's down to expectation after 2 very good Olympics.

Love most sports, athletics being one of my favourites probably because of being a competitor in several county championships 40 years back. Once upon a time I didn't run for a bus, I overtook it!! Now I wait patiently for the next one...

I've enjoyed watching it, but as with most sports these days I haven't enjoyed listening to it - commentary & punditry are things the Beeb really struggle with.

The women's 1500 was brilliant, the men's long jump and Pole vault were exciting and I thought our 800 bloke was going to squeeze in for a bronze right at the death.

The ridiculous excuse for an interview with the woman from the IAAF was embarrasing however, I'm amazed she was composed enough not to just get up and tell them all to sod off (but less politely)

I have enjoyed it and London have organised it very well. I have a few friends there as officials and athletes and they say bar the bad weather and underperformance it's been a great event.
There will always be controversy about the drug cheats and we all have opinions on those. Being relatively close to some athletes it is a lot worse than is perceived in the media and that's going some. I guess that is for another thread....
