Our annual outing is almost here and I'm off to play Woodhall Spa on Friday, Saturday & Sunday. Really looking forward to it, now that it's here.

Anyone played Woodhall Spa and any things to be aware of/tips round the two courses?

Practice on fast greens and practice your DEEP bunker shots :)

This. Oh and keep it straight and long(ish) too. If you go in the heather and try to play out of it, there's a small chance you may break your wrists.

And book for dinner at The Dower House /shamelessplug :D

And pop down to Martin Moor GC to see Bob (above), he might even give you a discount on Mars bar purchases :D

Cracking suggestion. Weather is supposed to be nice this weekend too, so you've picked a good one for it. Plenty of good photo op's on the Hotchkin.

It sounds like you're staying there for the whole weekend so make sure you venture into the village and get a cream cake (or 6!) from the bakery.

Best watering holes in the village are Smarties Bar (though full of youths mostly these days) or The Mall - this is where most the locals go these days.

Indian Restaurant is good but small and so you should book if you eat there.

The Chinese restaurant is absolutely awful these days. The guy that used to run it (Simon) sold it to his brother and moved to a restaurant in neighbouring village Tattershall (about a 5 minute drive)...So if you're hankering for a Chinese, drive to the Millenium Dragon in Tattershall, it's miles better than the Golden Dragon in Woodhall.

1 superb course and 1 really nice course....top weekend you have in store for yourself there!!

Just don't expect much to be going at at night time unless you don't mind chasing a GGILF. ;)

:D It's not called God's Waiting Room for nothing!

I'll pack the camera tonight. We're staying in Lincoln so there's a little more nightlife than Woodhall.

So tips now on DEEP bunker shots please..... :)

Which hotel in Lincoln are you staying in?

Holiday Inn, I think.

Ok.

If you're looking to eat out the Thai Restaurant by the Odeon Cinema is good.

All the other good restaurants are up Steep Hill in or around The Bailgate near the Cathedral

There's another great Thai place up there (owned by the same people as the one above) and there's an Italian, Mexican as well as places that serve traditional food...It's the nicer part of the city too.

That's great, thanks for the advice. Any suggestions for decent bars?

:D

Erm...It's been a few years since I went out in Lincoln. For cheap, there's a Weatherspoons (Lloyds Bar) on the Brayford Water Front (again, by the Cinema).

Then if you head into town up the high street and keep walking towards steep hill there's some bars up there which are "trendy" and not too bad. Slug & Lettuce etc That's the main "bar" area in Lincoln and where it will "be happening"....There's also one called "Kind" right at the top of the high street before you start the walk up Steep hill (it will be right in front of you). A couple of years ago, it was the best bar in Lincoln. I used to go every Tuesday to perform at Open Mic nights. Dunno if it's any good now though.

Couple of more "grown up" bars at the top of steep hill (Bailgate area again). More wine bar-y than pub/stoodent bar though.

Enjoy it. It is a tough but fair set up and rewards thinking golf so make sure you keep it in play off the tee and avoid the greenside bunkers. Have a great trip and I hope the hangovers aren't too savage

The hangovers shouldn't be too bad. Famous last words, I know, but we've calmed down over the years.

Can't wait now. Probably won't sleep tonight with excitement. What a geek! :)

Just back from our trip. What a cracking course the Hotchkin is. It's right up there with any course I've played. A brutal, brutal test. Bracken was very nice indeed but the Hotchkin was stunning. The heather was in flower and I cannot think of a more picturesque course that I've played.

Very highly recommended.

Went past Martin Moor and would have popped in to say hello to Bob but we were trying to get back in time to watch Hull v Leeds so didn't have time.

We'll definitely be back though. Phenomenal place.
