Been carrying for the last few weeks and after todays round found my right knee to be quite sore.

Anyone use and can recommend some sort of knee support.

Would like to try and strap it up in future when Im lugging my bag round.:smirk:

Generally do use a trolley, but due to recent weather, its better to carry.
Intend to see someome about it, just would like to prop it up to minimise any additional damage.

My right knee has no ACL, took them 5years to discover it. I used to knock it out and have to click back in, sometimes it would not go straight back. They found out when I could not pop it back, I had torn the meniscus, so they trimmed it up and that's when they confirmed the ACL was not attached.
I suggest you see your doctor and have what they call the mcgregor test, basically he puts your calf on his back and rotates your knee, if this is uncomfortable, see a specialist! Knees need loving, if I knew 10 years ago the importance of warming up my quads and hamstrings I would have an ACL.
By the way I carry my bag, the course is up and down, but exercise I only exercise if you go to your limits and for me he issues are twisting actions .. So I walk in a straight line :)

So wear stuff that keeps the muscles warm around the knee, thermal stuff and a sock support in spring ... If it is hot and sweaty that's good!

Whereabouts is it sore? If it's on the outside if the knee then you could try ITB stretching (search for it and you should get a few videos).

Disclaimer - I am not a doctor or a physiology just someone who has had 3 knee ops and needs a 4th on the same knee

Just stop carrying is the best bet. I knackered my knee a few years ago and had to stop carrying because anything more than 9 holes was making it sore. Now my shoulder is wrecked I can't even mangage 9 holes carrying.

I'd be surprised if it were ITBS but you never know. I also wouldn't describe ITBS as being "quite sore", "hurts like hell" would be a better description :D

Just get some pain under the knee cap when I put pressure onit ie walking upstairs.

Will get it looked at.

Agree about trolley, but if a ban comes in, its carry or don't play.

This is a little bone of contention for me, when they have trolley bans it can stop some members from playing as they need a trolley to get round. I always think that you should be entitled to some kind of refund if the club are stoppping you from playing because they have put a trolley ban in place.

Ah yes, those were the days, lying on the physio table with tear welling up as the physio went at my ITB...absolutely agony! Now it's self inflicted with the foam roller!

First time I got it I was out running and was about 2 miles from home when it got so bad I could hardly walk. Needless to say, it took me a long time to get home!

Below the knee is more likely a patellar ligament issue, you can get a support specially designed for it. But like the others say get it looked at, i'm 9 weeks after ACL reconstruction and wish i'd got it looked at years ago

I had a pain there brought on by playing about a year ago. The physio diagnosed it as patellafemoral (sp?) pain syndrome. A couple of weeks worth of thigh strengthening exercises fixed it.

I'm crocked too. Sharp pain behind kneecap, like being stabbed, and knee gives way. Had scan 12 months ago, discovered a 2cm cyst, but too small to do anything!! Guess the little bugger must have got bigger. Time for keyhole methinks.

Following a serious car accident 21 years ago I had problems with my right knee and was told I should be expecting a replacement knee when I reached 50. I suffered in silence for 18 years with the help of a custom fitted carbon fibre knee brace but 5 years ago it got too painful to the point I had to give up driving HGVs as I couldn't trust the knee anymore. I saw my GP and he sent me to hospital for a specialist to take a look. Following 3 consultations, my specialist, who was the registrar for the surgeon who put my leg back together after the accident, decided I should have an exploratory arthroscopy to see if there was anything that could be done to help with the pain.
After a 2 hour operation, that should have lasted 45 minutes tops, my notes had removal of medial Plica. It turned out this is a common injury for athletes and trauma sufferers. It's a membrane that sits at the front of the knee but isn't of any use, when it is damaged it can separate from the lower part of the knee joint and heal back onto the bottom of the Femur. Mine didn't heal onto the bottom of the Femur but had folded into the middle of the knee joint keeping it separated on one side for 19 years. I walked out of hospital after to op and the following morning I had no pain before getting out of bed for the first time since the accident.

I still get niggles and can't carry for more than 9 holes without it becoming very uncomfortable to the point of being painful but the day to day difference is amazing.
It's unlikely to be the problem but it's well worth seeing your GP and possibly a trip to a specialist as it's surprising what they can do these days.
