Playing in my first winter league competition this year, lost the first two games (played last week me against 2 as partner injured) so no chance of going through. Had to start this week me vs 2 again, partner came in for the back 9 as doc said he could only play 9 holes.

Anyways, -3 degrees Saturday morning, frozen course and on temp greens, playing the best team in our league currently undefeated. I'm 2 down after 4, keep it that way to 6, when, after scambling out of the trees after a wicked deflection of the concrete fairway, I miraculously chip in from 100 yds for a birdie, net eagle on the 7th par 5  Actually it was more a hit and run with my 7 iron and would have run miles past if it hadn't hit the flag and dropped in :o. Halve the next, and then chip in for a par net 2 on the 9th bringing it back level going out.

Partner meets us at the halfway house and we manage to work our way back to 2up after 16, dormie teeing off at 17. I hit three trees ping ponging back and forth to wind up in the brambles about 20 yds of the tee tried to hack it out but failed miserably and ended up picking up. Partner gets a lucky bounce and winds up about 15yds through the green for two, then promptly "putts" it backwards rather hard, again going miles past when it hits the pin and drops :D

To say I'm ecstatic is an understatement, although I do realize that the conditions were an absolute lottery. The game bears no reflection on the quality of golf as the balls were going all over the shop, but a wins a win :)

roll on next week........

I was out on Saturday and it was similar conditions to those that you describe. My Dad hit a great tee shot on the par 3 9th which bounced on the green about 30 feet in the air and finished 40 yards past the green on the 10th fairway. The number of chips and putts I duffed because I was worried about running through the back of the green was crazy, I four putted two greens in a row :)

I was out last sunday in similar crazy conditions.Any chip played without a very soft touch would bounce for miles off the green. The fairways and rough had so much snow I lost 6 balls!(even when I found the fairway!).And worst of all,I was using 3 pronged plastic tees and the ground was like iron,I pushed down so hard one of the prongs sliced finger open, claret everywhere! Well done anyways mate,a win in such conditions is always something to be proud of.

Whoa! what a lottery Sunday was, unreal bounces, putting conditions, however my partner and I managed a win in the winter league knockout again so we are into the last 8. Let's hope for better weather this weekend. I need the weather to hold as if we are to win it because I have joined a new club and my membership runs out on the last day of the comp, 28th Feb. The committee are adamant I will not be allowed to play in the final if it goes beyond that date.Nice of them eh!
