I've been a member of my club for 55 years & never won a club competition despite coming down from 17 to 7 in one season when I was young. Yesterday I returned a nett 65 to win the day's comp by 1 shot. Trouble is, it was a qualifier for an 8 man matchplay competition with 4 qualifying yesterday & 4 last Saturday. I played, & failed to qualify last Saturday so was playing yesterday solely to get my handicap down - I want to be single figures again for the first time since 1982 (0.4 to go now!) My father used to taunt me that he had his name on an honour board & I didn't & I used to respond that he was 70 when he won & I had plenty of time. Time is running out now but, if my present form continues, you never know, I can still do some damage off 10!
