Well I spent a loverly day on friday following Michelle Wie and then Ochoa around the course.
But was very disappointed with what was provided in the public area. There was not a single equipment manufacturer there. Nothing to browse in the downtime (Whilst getting ripped off on the usual extortionate food and drink prices)
So whats up?
Credit crunch crunching? Paying too much to your stars, so you can't afford a trailer? Or are the manufacturers just not interested in womens golf? Discuss :p

They've probably decided there's not enough exposure to warrant being there. BBC today only picked up the leaders rounds at the 8th so they can't think there are enough ratings to cover it more.

Sad in my opinion but thats the way it is.

no wonder the beeb did that,I was watching the mens from Czech Republic then switched over but didn't stay watching for long as the standard of play was very poor in comparison.420 par 4's and they are hitting timber to get up in two!

If they thought they were going to get a reasonable return for the investment then I think they would be there regardless of the outlay. But there just isn't the interest in ladies Golf to justify the cost of the week.

My first live event was at the Belfry last year, and it was heaving.
Nike, Calloway, Yes, Wilson Staff.
Artificial putting greens, Simulators, loads of stuff.
But here at the WO , just a few tatty shops flogging tshirts or headcovers.
Women may make up a smaller percentage of players than men, but I can assure you that the large crowds were evenly split m/f if not favouring more men. Lost opportunity methinks

I thought their was the usual tented village at the Open and would be surprised if there wasn't somewhere to buy kit albeit an onsite AG or similar franchise. I don't think most manufacturers have stands at these events anymore as their is considerable cost involved and there is limited room so I can't see anyone wanting to buy a full set of irons without wanting to hit them first.

I think the Womens Open is improving year on year as public interest begins to grow. I went last year and it actually a good day out. I disagree about it not being an interest to anyone and think thats a glib remartk. The ladies rely a lot more on both natural timing and a good short game and both areas are those which club golfers could learn a lot from by watching the women. That and the fact that soem are just as pretty in the flesh as they appear on TV

Just come back from the Women's Open and it was fantastic. Granted there was some poor play, but there was plenty of that at Turnberry.
I didn't see a fairway missed by more than a couple of feet, and some of the short game stuff was excellent.
I actually thought the tented bit was better than The Open at Royal Liverpool. I had a go on the Hole in One challenge and got it to 12 foot. However a very good lady put it to a foot so that showed me!!!
There was also a Pro doing a putting challenge who was great, and also took time out to help my kids have a meaningful go as well.
Overall it was a great day out.
