Now before i start this is not a dig at the BBC - i'm sure there's a reason but..

..Why is their coverage showing players who've already finished? Do they not have live rights?

I bet on Lexi Thompson and was hoping to see some of her shots today but they're showing stacy lewis etc who've already finished?

It was the same yesterday, later on in the afternoon they switched to live coverage. My guess is that because they're not showing it all day they are trying to show some of the morning players before showing the afternoon lot live. So we get a couple of hours of "repeats" while the live action is ongoing.

A wrong decision, IMO, just proving that the BBC is no longer fit to broadcast major sporting events.

Maybe ask the same to Sky who are currently showing highlights whilst live Matchplay golf is going on.

To suggest the BBC isn't fit to show major sports events is very wide of the mark - just watch their coverage of any Olympics which is the biggest sporting event in the world and their coverage has won awards. Just because the BBC isn't showing the golf from the minute the first person tees off to the minute the last sinks a putt doesn't mean they aren't fit to broadcast major sport events.

C'mon it's only a w...... sorry, that'd be trolling ;)

Thanks for the replies

I didn't see any coverage yesterday as i presumed they were only showing the afternoon players and Lexi tee'd off early.

As said, i wasnt having a dig at the BBC - its great they're showing anything at all.

Not really, we'd be getting proper coverage on Sky if the BBC didn't have the rights...

Just like they are showing live all day of the Matchplay right now ?

Think there is around 10 matches being played not being shown by sky

Is that what you mean by proper coverage ?

No disrespect, but can you class womens golf as a major sporting event?

I'm not sure you can personally. As much as I do enjoy watching it, I don't really see it as a major sporting event. It's certainly starting to attract more coverage, but it's still a long way behind the gents game in terms of viewers, paying public etc, so not a major event for me.

I have a funny feeling the beeb will show more womens sport (like footy and golf) in the near future as they can't afford to compete financially for the mens equivalent anymore.

The women's British open? Yes, of course.

All depends on what is classed as major

Look at the crowds there - it's not packed , the press coverage , advertising - who outside of golf knows it's on - a very small doubt

Whilst it maybe a Ladies Golf Major it really would struggle to be classed as a major sporting event

Like Sky have the rights to the Matchplay yet have just started the coverage even though some people are close to finishing their games?

Just playing devils advocate here..

Well, they started an hour after BBC started but at least they are showing live golf. We've had an hour and a quarter of delayed coverage on the BBC while live golf is in progress! Crazy stuff.

Its a Major sporting event and great to watch, you can learn a lot from how they play

And Sky having been showing highlights on there golf channel whilst live golf is going on - what's the difference ?

Currently watching Inbee Park tee off on 16.

She gets a birdie, pars 17 but drops a shot at 18.

What on earth are the BBC playing at, this is 2015 not 1985 we all know what's happening we need to see live pictures!

The double standards are pathetic

Oh well won't be long until the same will whinge and cry about Sky

Which is why i made the OP in the 1st place

However- if it has been like this for both days then i can see their point - showing either side of the draw on both days in their limited coverage

I can't see the point, to be honest. If they were showing it later this evening, OK, but I'd much rather see the live action than what Inbee did a couple of hours ago. Although her third shot on this hole is clearly going to be a cracker!

Exactly that

They did the same yesterday showing Lydia Ko fantastic round then went to the live pictures and will do the same today

Tomorrow they have 5 hours worth plus another 5 on Sunday

For an event that isn't at the top of the sporting calendar it's a lot of dedicated coverage

I'd disagree, I'm not sure it is (not that it really matters tbf). I definitely agree you can learn a lot from them though, their game is closer to your average golfer (much better of course, but closer to) than the elite gents are.
