I am lucky enough to have landed a free four ball at woburn next spring/summer. however i have to choose what course now!

I prefer aethsetics over playability. The more trees the better!

Also intrested to know how much guest rate is for the courses.

Many thanks

you wont be short of trees whichever you choose!

Ask 3 people and you may well get 3 different answers (or even ask me on 3 diff days and you may get 3 diff answers!). Dukes and Duchess are the older and more similar courses, Marquess a bit newer and a bit more open.

Wouldl ook and see if theyre playing any comps on one of the courses near to the date and go for that one so you get tiptop condition, if not then if pushed Id choose Dukes but you will enjoy any of them.

As for green fee, not sure but visitor rates are over £100

My choice would be the Marquess but next week could say the Dukes

Everyone has their favourite - Dukes is prob the best mix

Guests rate is around £115

I've played all 3 and I prefer the Duchess. Lots of trees and very tight with a fair few thinking holes.
Dukes would be next for aesthetics imo, not quite as tight but a bit longer, followed by the Marquess which didn't grab me like I'd hoped it would.

Very difficult to choose between the 3 of them - all cracking courses and never tire of playing them. I think I would go for the Duchess....no wait, the Dukes....no hold on the Marquess....aaarrrrggghhhh! Best tip, just pick one out of a hat - whichever you choose you won't be disappointed.

I'd choose the Duchess. Such a beautiful course when the sun is shining. The sheer number of trees lining the tight fairways lends it a very slight fairytale aspect. I would never tire of playing it..

Ok I'm playing the Marquess tomorrow and will decide then :D

The duchess last week was a bit wet in places and greens very slow - Dukes on Monday was a picture of colour

I could go off some people you know Phil!

I liked all 3 overall but preferred the Marquess myself, a) I played half decent and b) the weather was immense. The company wasnt bad either :)

Shift work has its advantages

And so does living close enough to be a member of not one, but three bloody lovely courses. As I said the other day in another thread, I live in Brighton (well Hove actually). I'm surrounded by courses, but nothing outstanding.

3 gems, all at the same club that is out of the price bracket for most, doesnt make it the best of areas to live for golfers. Great if you can afford Woburn, pretty barren if you cant

Sorry you don't agree. I think I could be rather happy there. Fairly sensible property prices in the area too.

What about Woburn sands and aspley guise, Leighton buzzard or Dunstable downs ?

Dunstables a bit too far out (from where I am at least) and not a fan of either the other two personally, both very tight fiddly courses and have more than their share of "stuffy" members (apologies to any members on here, I know its not all), wouldnt choose to be a member at either of them personally

Marquess for me, very closely followed by the Duchess. The latter is tight, tight, tight, but some lovely holes.

Then a massive way behind is the Dukes! Really don't like it as a course, and have played it three times now, so it's not down to playing it badly!

I tend to agree with Bratty, Marquess is definitely my favourite, but i found the middle patch of the dukes a little bland.
