Without cheating.....

I'd stab a guess at around 68% as he's had a bad year.
Pray tell ....................... or can I look it up now?

Slime.

62%

He hit 11 GIR's per round.

Makes you think huh?

1044 holes played... missed 395 greens

Only 4 people made it over 70% for the year.... so they only hit 12/13 greens each round.

the number is really irrelevant, its how it compares to the others on tour and im pretty sure hes a long way behind the top guys numbers, and more relevantly, had very few weeks where he would have been top 20 in GIR, hence he competed in very few tournaments. Id expect his number was relatively bad partly because of his driving stats, drove the ball utterly horrifically (for a tour pro) at times last year

Round 7500 yard courses with slick greens. Most of these guys would hit 90% plus round the tracks we play week in week out

I think it was his putting and scrambling that let him down this year..
11 GIR - I bet in 20111/12 he was sinking 4 or 5 birdie putts most rounds and barely 3 putting at all.

Of course..... I'm just scaling it down for the average golfer.

But they also have ball spotters (so can smash their drives) and massive greens (compared to most of ours).

AND..... they consider 4" rough to be practically unplayable :p :D

Correct. I played Kingsbarns not long ago which has no trouble off the tee, huge wide fairways and massive greens and I missed the 15th and 18th greens in regulation but put me on a course with some teeth and that high percentage would become a low percentage!!

2012 numbers 1st, 2013 2nd for Donald:

Driving accuracy 65%/63%
GIR 65%/62%
Scrambling 62.7%/61.5%
Strokes gained putting 0.8/0.5

If you look at his stats his game was worse in pretty much every area it seems

Not many people seem surprised that Luke Donald hits 11 greens in regulation..... even though we (as amateurs) stand on the tee trying to hit all 18 greens..... and we want to put our approach shots to 10ft..... and make the putt.

The best last year hit 12/13 greens.... still not a surprise? 5+ greens missed in most rounds....??

I would like to see his stats for the year he won both money lists (2011?) to see how he compares today, anyone care to dig them out?.........please.........??

2012 numbers 1st, 2013 2nd, 2011 3rd for Donald:

Driving accuracy 65%/63%/64%
GIR 65%/62%/67%
Scrambling 62.7%/61.5%/63.7
Strokes gained putting 0.8/0.5/.844
Overall scoring 69.6/69.8/68.8

I've added his 2011 figures when he topped the money list, not massively different. Scoring average is the most striking one, a full shot a round better.

I think it just goes to prove one thing in golf. If you want to score well you have to have a tidy short game. Look at a lot of club golfers, they miss the green, cock the chip up and then miss the 10 footer they have just left themself for par. Tour pros more often than not hit it dead or as near as damn it inside gimme range, sometimes they hole them.

There is probably a lot of players on this forum alone that can have FIR, driving distance and GIR stats like the pros. Difference is the pros are probably 6 - 10 shots a round better as they make more birdie putts and scramble pars better.

Fixed that for you :D
