Has anyone been custom fitted for Wishon irons by a clubmaker?

If so, did/does their performance match your expectations?

For those who like to jump on their soap box at the mention of CF, this is NOT a thread about the pro's and cons of so called custom fitted OEM clubs and is a completely different subject and process.

Cheers guys.

MGL is probably in the best position to comment - as a fitter!

I 'ball-park' categorise them with Orkas, though the marketing is slightly different.

Driver 919 11* with S2S black 85g stiff shaft
5w 929 hs 18* with s2S gold 77g stiff shaft
3hybrid 775 hs 21* S2S white 78g hybrid lite stiff shaft
4-PW 555M blades with Dynamic Gold SL stiff shafts - will be changing shafts to Nippon when I can.

Tom Wishon is the master of club design and what he doesn't know ain't worth knowing. The 555s are now retired and are the best looking blades I've seen and played with.

The 919 driver is very solid and is 44" long but I average 270 with roll. The 3hybrid is in for my 3i and this thing flies 210, rolls to 225.
I got my clubs from Chesterfield Custom Fit

personally I won't use OEMs again I like using smaller custom fit operators to get the personal service that the main OEMs don't really give. I do have my own custom builder but I'm thinking of actually doing the course myself.

I'll start this thread by stating that as a authorised fitter of Wishon, I am biased somewhat.

His equipment is very good. I also fit Miura and Orka, and I don't believe I am overstating it when I say that some if the models are very close in quality to Miura. They are a definite step up from ORKA as well - again, just my opinion based on working with all these brands for over four years now.

In particular, the 919 driver and associated woods and hybrids are excellent. In terms of irons, look at the 560 and the 575 series.

Wishon himself rates the 919 driver and the 560 irons as his best ever heads. That's some statement, again IMHO.

What is the price of them MGL ?

Some of them look very nice

Re irons, can obviously depend on which shaft (PX shafts as components are quite expensive for example) but typically, the 560 and 575s would be about 650 to 700 (7 irons). Personally, I do the driver for 285, FW for 185 and hybrids for 145.

I'm not trying to sell to anybody though!!

Tom Wishon is a very informed and interesting person regarding Golf clubs. I have read many of his articles and have learned a lot from them. I also like his clubs they are first class gear.

Have had a look at some of the clubs and they look nice and seem reasonably priced.

Read through some of his myths and wasn't a fan of the dismissive of both club pros or OEM's - fitting will always come down to a personal relationship and experience and to dismiss all club pros is wrong IMO

Read his articles on golf club design. They are very interesting.

I'll adjust my 'pidgeon-holing'/categorising then!

Thanks for the info re 919 and 560s. As the creator of a huge number of designs - and a great innovator/engineer - his opinion should be valued - at least of his own designs.

In 1999 Tom hand grinded every single iron to Payne Stewarts specs. Each iron was different to the other and took over 6 months to do with Payne accepting or rejecting what Tom did. Payne as we know Won at Pinehurst, his last Major, was instrumental and the driving force in the Ryder Cup that year as the US Team won. His untimely death, left golf without the style he brought to the game.
If Payne Stewart sought Tom Wishon to deal with his clubs, then that should say something.

Tom was also half way through his next set when he died.

Really. Wasn't Payne contracted to Spalding at that time, or out of contract but used Spalding? Unsure?

He had just completed that contract and had started one with Lynx that TW was designing for!

I think he might have won Pinehurst with Mizuno clubs, though Lynx bag/brolly.
