Went on the range at the club today, slushy snow covering the grass, the greens on the range were solid and white over, knocked loads of balls down there and decided to finish with some bunker shots. Tossed 20 balls in, some gently and some with force to simulated plugging and various lies.

20 went in and 20 came out, 15 on the green 2 just short 2 to the far fringe and 1, 3 yds beyond. Watching them was the best bit, you could see the spin so clearly and watch the ball trying to grip as it spun on the rock hard white surface almost like a dance, the fact that I managed to keep 15 on the rock hard green was a pleasure, I wish i had the camera to show the shots and the clear ball behavior.

Oh and those balls I got for Xmas, the Ultra were crap yet the new make dunlops were fine, not what I would use in a comp but surprised me nevertheless.

Just got back from a quick 9. Club was much the same. Dodnt get the putter out once. Would have been like outted over icy tarmac.

Hit a good few GIR only to bounce way through the back. Most of the greeens at my course have an upslope approach so you cant hit them short and let them run. Grrrr.

Not sure there is much mileage hitting into frozen greens as they don't stop especially if the lie of the land and course design stops the short shot running in.

I'd have loved to see the pictures of the balls spinning and very interesting re the difference in balls. Good to see the bunker technique is obviously working well

Your right Homer it was the bunker I was more interested in but it was amazing how clearly you could see the balls behavior today, I have never noticed just how much is in them till today as usually they hit a soft green and stop or pull back a little making you think you only put a little back spin on, but it surprised me today just how much spin i generate.
