CONGU actively encourages clubs to continue playing qualifiers throughout the winter, even when Winter Rules are in force.

few clubs around here cut your handicap during the winter comps but then go back to normal handicap when april comes around
my home club you just stay the same

The only real concession at our place for the winter is 6 inch placing so we can get cut all year round.

Pretty sure can be cut at our place unless they have to use any of the mats which invariably shortens the course by more than a 100yds and hence makes it non-qualifying

I for the life of me do not understand why we cannot either go up or down at my place.

We often get the scenario where by a high handicapper shoots the sticks out and pops in 42 pts one week then 44 the next then 39 on another in fairly quick succession. This tends to happen as we play on a course that due to tees being further forward plays around 6 /700 yards shorter than Summer.

What happens to this fellas handicap while he is shooting these scores?

Sweet F.A.

Golf at our place in the winter is a hackers charter.

I have to agree with Dodger here.....
If im bringing in good scores over winter then i should get the rewards in my eyes.....Ok the course is playing a little shorter....But then you can argue that there is no run on the ball and the greens are not really in top condition....

And everyone knows how hard it is to pick a ball clean off a wet soggy fairway....Or get it out of a compacted bunker....
For me winter golf could be and in most cases is a lot tougher than summer golf.
