How many of you ditch clubs for the winter and play a half set?

Given that most places ban the trolley or rope everywhere off, its generally easier to carry in the winter.

I recently bought a mizuno bag that can be stripped down to nothing, with only the 3W, 5H, 5i, 7i, 9i, PW, 58* and Putter, I enjoyed having less choice of club. And it made carryng much easier.

I don't see the point in leaving half the set out. The bag doesn't weigh much less with a full set and with a decent strap you don't feel it.
I can see the point of trying different shots but I'd just rather have all my clubs to hand.

At my place there is no such thing as a trolley ban as it is a links course so it makes no difference to me. Although if I go away anywhere over the winter I tend to throw a couple of bats out and take less and carry.

Having been brought up in the days when a half set of 3,5,7,9 & SW was very common, I like to go back to play simple golf during the winter. Since we don't have winter medals, virtually all my winter golf is for fun, so I have no problems about playing with a half or three quarter set in the bag. As long as I get out for a game when the weather is dry I'm okay.

Winter golf isn't serious golf, it's just an excuse to get out for some exercise and to get some fresh air.

I carry a full set all year round. With golf being my main sport and it not being the most physical of sports, carrying helps me to get a little bit more of a workout.

Full set all year round for me.

I'm still learning so I want to play as much as possible, with as many clubs as possible.

In any case, If I took a half set you can guarantee ill leave myself a shot that requires one of the clubs I left at home :D

We play alternate odd/even half sets and carry. It's bad enough slogging round on "damp" ground in the rain and cold without having to carry a full set plus the stuff in the bag. But then we are seniors!

i take half a set as i cant be bothered to carry a hole set if im playing my home course
if im playing my 2nd course i take a full set

I have recently bought a Mizuno Aerolite Micro carry bag, easily fits a full set in and has pockets for waterproofs & valuables etc.

Funny enough, as a newby I was going to ask this sort of question as this will be my first winter playing & I intend to carry either a half / threequarter set.
Any recommendations for a decent lightweight stand bag that would suit my needs would be welcome.

I never knew that carrying was a factor in club selection but suppose it can be if not normally a carrier. I have never used a trolley or buggy and always have the full set.

I carry all year but even so, why would you want less clubs?

Because when I am playing bounce games, The bag is light as a feather. The challenge is manufacturing shots you might not normally play.

My course isn't particularly long, but is fairly tight in places. Prob only use the driver once a round in winter, so for sake of 20 yards, I leave it out.

Its quite handy for getting to know parts of the course you don't normally end up.
