Well, they have now started and a good result for Team GB in the mixed curling with a victory over Sweden.
As a team, GB seem to be getting stronger with more medal hopes.
The good news we can watch in either on BBC and iPlayer or on Eurosport.
Is everyone looking forward to it? Who are your favourites.

It's a shame that the NHL players are not going for the hockey. All the players involved were really looking forward to it and the league and NHLPA had moved mountains to make it happen in terms of scheduling, insurance etc. And then covid came along.

It's going to be a Covid affected games, for sure.
I love watching the biathlon. Grueling skiing and then having to calm down for the shooting.
Looking forward to the biathlon as well. I’ve been watching the biathlon World Cup races on Eurosport for the past couple of years. In fact just a couple of weeks ago Amanda Lightfoot finished 20th in a race, the highest ever for a UK competitor. I’ve adopted the Norwegians as the ones I follow.

A friend of mine was in the 2010 Winter Olympics in the bobsleigh, both 2-man and 4-man. He had never had a big crash in his career and then in his last event, his driver tipped him at the same corner. He went mental at him after the 4-man event and had to be dragged away from the live interview.

There are some seriously crazy people at these Olympics. You must be, to take part in events like the 2 man luge, or the short track skating relay!
Nah, the real nutters are the speed skiers. Not been at the Olympics since 92 though, I vaguely remember watching it thinking wtf.

Lindsey Jacobellis ?
Probably been a lot of sleepness nights since Turin

I remember watching in horror as she ballsed it all up back in 2006...fair play to her for keeping coming back, sporting redemption at its very best...maybe a movie in there one day.

Wow. You could see some of the "disused" industry in the backdrop but that really shows it - horrible!
So what! As long as the 'arenas' are appropriate, then it's fine. And that seems to be the case, as no criticism has been made - though that could well be out fear of 'consequences'!
In fact, when the games are over, these facilities will simply be disassembled and 'recycled'. All as per the plan that, presumably, the IOC approved when the bid was accepted. It's more likely that the 'disused' industry have simply been temporarily moved out and will be moved back in after the games.

Certainly Luge competitors have to be up there with the 'craziest', but the snowboard acrobatics(?) make their insane ability look simple!

I'll put in another vote for the downhill racers. A mate who is a pretty competent black run skier was once in Kitzbuhel just before a World Cup race and decided to sneak on to the Hahnenkamm to "see what it was like". They side slipped a few yards before deciding it was " ... too effin scary and beyond stupid ..."

Yeees...

but, surely it jars a little that the Winter Olympics are being held somewhere that's not the slightest bit "wintery"? Surely if it's just about providing the facilities whatever the conditions/location, then just build everything at one go in one place and call it "the Olympics" and do away with the summer & winter designations? I think I'll put in a bid to extended the ski slope at Ruxley Corner and we can have the olympic downhill skiing in south east London. :)
