winter mats

lam a member at Stanton on the Wolds Golf Club just south of Nottingham,l have been out of the country till last week on my return l am horrified to find that when playing l am required to carry around with me a plastic mat, l have been told to use the mat all around our course?? any comments

Quite a common thing during the winter I think, certainly a lot of Parkland courses up here in Central Scotland anyway. Either that or you need to lift ball from fairway and place in 1st cut of rough.

No great issues, it's a tempory measure to make the course better when the season starts. You always get a good lion a mat anyway

All well and good in Scotland bur l am talking East Midlands mild winters does that sound right??

I know a lot of the Scottish contingent do it but I think it is less common in England. Not sure it would go down too well here where we don't tend to get bad weather (except for this weekend coming). Pretty sure it wouldn't be tolerated at my place and don't think it would be justified anyway
