It finally seems that those cold, wet and windy mornings on the course over winter are paying off. Been out twice this weekend and, whilst I have not been keeping score as my group opted for match play, I have taken the money on both occasions. High point was a run of 3 holes where one of my group (playing off 9) scored pars and I took all 3 with net birdies.

The extra yards on the driver due to the lack of wind, the fact that there is now some run on the fairways and the fact that the fairways are now nice a firm seems to have made a massive diference to my game.

Confidence is so high after the weekend that I am now down to enter my first comp next week.

I am just beginning to find a patch of half decent form as well. The course is looking great and it is nice to play in shirt sleeves again instead of several layers and waterproofs.

The swing changes I made in the new year are becoming more ingrained although I do have a rendencey still to either collapse my left knee of lose my height up and down in the swing. Working more on keeping the bottom half nice and stable to give a solid platform to coil the body around. When its good it is very good but when it goes wrong - well I only have one word to sum it up - DOH

I had a great winter and had plentty of success in the comps.
First two propelr competitions so far this year have been poor with neither being within the buffer zone so another 0.2 back for the end of the month. My driver was surprisingly off yesterday until late on when I fixed the problem but was too late. Had a two which made it worthwhile though. Playing a local Belfast course tomorrow afternoon and am expecting to play well as long as the shank doesnt reappear. I hit a strange one yesterday where it didnt feel like hozzle and I think I had turned my hands over and it hit the toe, caused me to drop more than a couple of shots due to where it ended up.
Im still confident though as the new Titleist irons are still going great guns.

Hi Homer
Are you going in for comps now or giving your swing more time to 'bed in.'
Mine is still changing and now realise I am down to play the club doubles comp soon with Mr B. We are defending champs but looking at an early exit this time!
Agree warmer weather is great - watch 'em roll!

If I ever get out of the house, I'm expecting to reap the rewards of hard work over the winter. I wrapped up warm and downed a concoction of drugs to check out the boards at the club this afternoon. 6 summer comps....all closed to entries yesterday!! SO, almost nothing to go for......just to add to the depression.
I might 'phone the sec' tomorrow early doors and beg for clemency....

Windy.....you and me know that once the ground dries up, you'll be murdering the links....a bit like Royal St.Ds....windy and wet...it's easier to climb snowdon on a space hopper. Dry and benign.....whay-hey.....time to party!

I've been playing in competitions evey month (both stableford and medal) and haven't played to my handicap competitively in 2008. It has been difficult trusting my new swing but I played in an inter-club match (4ball better ball) last Sunday and to be fair my partner had what can only be described as a bad day at the office.

I played the front 9 really well under pressure to keep the score reasonable and went round in one under my handicap (equivalent to 19 points stableford) and we were still 2 down. Things went a little awry on the back 9 but I think that was more a case of having to push that much harder to make things happen.

Although we lost on the 17th I felt that in the scheme of things my swing finally stood up to pressure and I am now looking forward to playing the competitions and getting down to my goal of 10
