Winter golf balls

Speaking to my mates in the US, he does not use his driver in the Winter. Acc to him, the ball gets so cold in the US winter, that it can cause small indentation on the driver face.

Homer.. something to think about..

Is he a member of WRX. Sounds like the kind of nonsense they spout on there

Somehow the engineer in me.. wants to believe the physics behind it... I now need to go and lie down.

Read on some tip website re Winter ball....
1) Leave two balls on the radiators so that they stay warm.
2) Put them in your pocket with the handwarmers till you get to the first tee.
3) Use the balls on alternate holes, while keeping the other in the pocket to keep them warm (but u cannot use a hand warmers mid game as it is illegal)

In the Winter I use almost any balls that are round, white or yellow, and dimpled. I do draw the line at range balls and Donnays though.

Well today in my round I tried both my z-star and the chosen rock!! Didn't really notice much of a difference off the tee with them, but felt a lot more comfortable on and around the greens with the z-star so I've decided to stick with what I know as was sugested!!!

In that case you might want to consider the cheaper Srixon AD333 ball which goes almost as well and spins a bit less than the Z-Star. Still has a nice feel to it compared with many rock hard distance balls.

"Losing distance during the winter months when the temperature drops?
I can help - with a simple ball change!
During the colder months we all lose distance with our Driver and Irons, which is frustrating and all comes down to the fact that when it's colder, the ball becomes harder to compress. When the ball doesn't compress, the ballspeed will go down and ultimately the ball will not go as far.

A simple solution for that would be switching over to a ball that compresses more to create the ballspeed that you would normally get. For example, last weekend I got one of the Clubs top golfers to change from a ProV1x to a TaylorMade RocketBallz and he got his yardages back to his normal - all because the RocketBallz compresses more. I can use myself as an example too, because normally I would use a ProV1 but when it's colder, I swich to a Srixon Soft Feel to get my normal yardages back."

You can never get all your distance back in cold winter conditions simply because cold air is denser and causes more air resistance or drag. Air at 0° C is about 10% denser than it is at 25°C.

Agree... also the near absence of any roll means the best you can get back is your carry distance and not the total distance. Neverthless, might be worth switching to high compression balls..
