Played the final of the winter foursomes today in beautiful sunshine, light breeze, a far cry from the first few rounds we played in the cold, rain and wind.

Made a cracking start, five up after five, playing solid golf against our 6 and 9 handicap opponents. Still five up after seven and then the wheels fell off. By the 14th we were all square and there looked like there would only be one winner. My partner hold a 20 footer on the 15th for a half which kept us all square, and we won the 16th with our last shot to nudge ahead again. Back to all square after the 17th and not looking good when the 6 handicapper than hit a huge drive into the wind 120 yards short of the green at 18. I then hit my first driver of the round and nailed one to leave my partner 150 yards into the green. He then hit his best shot of the day onto the front of the green, and after a six foot second putt we managed a half.

We then had to go down the 19th, and after our opponents duffed their tee shot, a drive, wedge and two putts and we were the winners.:whoo: I have never been so relieved to win a match. All I seemed to be able to think about was not losing a match we were five up in. I did say to my partner when the match got back to all square, that we just had to start again forgot what had gone before, and that our opponents would feel the pressure of trying to win. We actually played the last five holes in two over par, which considering what had gone before in the previous six holes was pretty good golf. Second time we have won the trophy in four years.

A great result if not a great days golf. Think I will celebrate with a few shandies tonight, and prepare for the first round of the summer foursomes on Wednesday.;)

Well done! I do think when you get so far up early then the opponent relaxes somehow and hits shots fearlessly with a "nothing to lose" attitude. Then they get a couple back and you start protecting and they have momentum and it can swing round so fast.

Well done for holding your nerve in extra time - enjoy the shandies!!

Well done Rich. I had my first ever foursomes match yesterday and won that on the 19 th as well but unfortunately that was a first round!

You left him a 6 footer on the last for a half...!!!!

Nice first putt Sir!

Pin was on the back, ball was on the front, and the putt had fifteen foot of left to right break on it. I left the only straight putt on the green.:p

Cheers guys and girls. We had a referee for the match, first time for me. He called the scores, and had to give quite a few rulings, as we were not always down the middle of the fairway. Think he was well chuffed when we had to go down the 19th !!

Well done , thats was a hard fought win.

We are in the the Winter Foursomes final at my club this Wednesday. It has taken so long for the other league to get to the final, we were qualified at the end of February, seems odd playing a Winter Final in these weather conditions.

Don't worry - it'll probably be raining!
