Well I have found the down side to playing on a course built on top of a chalk down, nothing... absolutely nothing will stop on the dessicated greens!

A day when it as so windy I had three drives over 290 including one measuring 338 (wind assisted of course but Timgolfy would still be proud of it) I found it impossible to gauge the distance for chips and lag putts.

The wind has blown over our course for a fair few days now and all the greens are dessicated. Add that to the fact they were mown and rolled just before the wind got up means the lack of rain has resulted in ice rinks.

I got so tentative I started duffing chips and taking too much loft and leaving them short. I just could not figure the damn things out when it came to scoring!

Anyone elses courses in this state? How do you feel about it?

Is it worth being a member at a course on less well draining soil where you cannot play in winter but summer it is nice and lush? Would you prefer to be able to play all winter but have to deal with dry bare lies and dessicated greens in the summer?

I played in the wind the other day, fortunately most of the wind fell behind us which was confidence building.

Otherwise is just tried to keep everything off the back foot, with a few dinges included!

Dessicated - what does that mean. I thought it was something you get coconut in for cakes etc.

Sod dessicated, my game was desecrated last time I played in the wind. :D
