I expect some of you run Microsoft on you home computers -MS Windows latest updates (which is more than just security updates), its just out but be careful.

My Sony laptop went into update mode for about 6 hours and then decided it couldn't complete so took another 40 mins to revert.

Quite a few others on the MS Community sites are moaning with some computers 'bricking'! - so make sure you fix a restore point, backup your system and personal data just in case

Did a required corporate 'upgrade' from Windows 7 to Windows 10 last week. Took a good few hours for all the updates to be applied - but seems to have been completed without any issues. I chose to go into my local company office so that I could plug into the company network rather than try and do it at home - the instructions for a home upgrade looked a bit scary for me...

I don;t know if the upgrade covered October Windows updates.

Microsoft is progressively moving to a monthly subscription business model and will stop 'selling' software, and be 'cloud' based. This means they can borrow against future revenue streams ! Several commentators are expressing concerns that this means their QC is not such a concern as they will just keep issuing 'patches'. This will cause hardware to become obsolete quicker.

IMO if you're in the market to change computers you might want to think about using a Linux platform. The fact that Android is an 'open' system (which means loads of developers are continually beta testing) also means a Google type system might be better for domestic use.

Obviously if you're happy don''t worry - this is just food for thought.

My desktop is currently running on Windows XP, I know it's not been supported for years, but I love it, but can I swap XP for Linux?
If so, how complicated to do?
Thanks.

There are many versions of Linux, I use Ubuntu but to see how easy it is you can run it off a memory stick without having to install it.
It's not complicated at all, I'm not at all tech savvy, the instructions are all there.
