At £650.00 per team to enter the Formby Golf Clubs Corporate Day, £162.50 gives you the chance to win a Porsche Boxster for a hole in 1

Imagine winning one of those on the day, what a night that would be

Many many years ago, played in a big charity day where there a was a Ferrari up for grabs if you made a hole in 1 on the long par 3 18th. Was playing with my Dad and he hit it to an inch, utterly gutted despite winning nearest the pin

Did they wheel it out Bullseye style saying, "let have a look at what you could have won" and then giving you the badge off the bonnet ;)

We had a comp earlier in the year sponsored by a local garage with a Vauxall up for grabs for a hole in one. Not as glamerous but added a bit of excitement to a normal comp.

I suppose its a gamble for a smaller local company, although the odds are quite high but what an adrenalin rush seeing it heading for the hole with such a prize on offer.

It would be a quiet night in the bar, I would have popped in, got the drinks and then be gone, ripping the hell out of my new Boxter round the lanes....

Thats a big entry fee though hu.

I'd assume you'd lose your amateur status if you won that prize? or have the rules changed for that level of prize?

Rules have changed these days, can win the car and stay as an amateur. Its the type of win it is that allows a bigger prize (ie hole in one is a large proportion of luck compared to skill of winning a scratch tourney)

Saw somewhere recently offering if you get a hole in one this summer you get to come back and play the hole again at the end of summer, get another hole in one and you win $1m - nice advertising but hard to see anyone winning it!

we took advantage of the rule change to insure holes in one on captains day this year - the cost was minimal, but a hole in one on 2 of our holes won a 5 year 7 day membership.

discussions afterwards indicated that it did focus peoples minds!

Last years captains day was sponsored by local garage offering upto £20K car. This year it was sponsored by a specialist hole in one company, offering £10k on one hole and complete sets of callaway clubs, or holidays on the others.

I love hole in one comps for major prizes like that. A highlight of my golfing calendar is a corporate golf day at Burhill where they put up a prize of a classic Merc, Porsche, Aston Martin, for an ace. I think the cars are worth up to 20K.

Still waiting for my first hole in one:(
