With the new Wim Hoof 'celebrity' program, has anyone tried his breathing technique? Does it work or is it all fluff?

From the net, this is the breathing technique (apparently can vary slightly)
  1. Take in a strong inhalation through the nose.
  2. Let out a relaxed exhalation through the mouth.
  3. Repeat for 30 breaths.
  4. On the 30th breath, exhale to 90 percent and hold for as long as you can.
  5. When you feel your body really needs to take a breath, inhale fully and hold for 15 seconds before releasing.
The basic technique involves three consecutive rounds of the above.

The benefits listed are very wide ranging, some are listed below:
  • increased energy
  • better sleep
  • reduced stress levels
  • heightened focus and determination
  • increased willpower
  • stronger immune system
Sounds too goo d to be true to me, but interested to hear what others think - particularly those who have tried it.

Yoga and associated controlled breathing techniques are well known to be good for reduced stress, increased energy and better sleep, which are all completely tied up with one another and can contribute to a healthy immune system.
Not sure what the Wim Hof method involves other than applying breathing techniques to take your mind off the stupid physical challenge you've embarked on.
I don't see what breathing has to do with willpower. Oxygen ain't Hobnobs.

Having said that, we accidentally caught the last half of the program last night and it was very entertaining.

We are going to watch the first one to see if it worth persevering with

It was helped by the fact that the participants are mostly people you'd actually like to spend time with rather than the usual attention seekers.

Been a relaxation technique for decades. Apparently HW became a Hoff fan and convinced producer hubby's to make a programme. We watched expecting to learn a bit of the scientific opinions but it's simply second rate 'celebrities acting up for the camers: pretty dire, we'll not be watching again
